Tomigerus Clausus
''Tomigerus clausus'' is a species of air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Odontostomidae. Distribution This species occurs in Brazil. Anatomy The anatomy of ''Tomigerus clausus'' was examined by Harold Heath in 1914. The mantle has more highly thickened margins and more glandular epithelium than in the genus''Anostoma'', extending throughout the body whorl of the shell to the region adjacent to the aperture. It thus terminates at the point where the ureter bends abruptly upon itself. The external openings of the ureter and intestine occupy the usual positions on the right side, and from this point they pursue a course parallel to the external surface of the body, in close contact with the mantle cavity. The ureter bends sharply upon itself at the termination of the mantle cavity, and, dorsally placed with reference to this chamber, proceeds anteriorly to unite with the forward extremity of the kidney. The body of the kidney is ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Odontostomidae
Odontostomidae is a Taxonomy (biology), taxonomic family (biology), family of medium-sized to large, air-breathing, tropical and sub-tropical land snails, Terrestrial animal, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod Mollusca, molluscs in the superfamily Orthalicoidea.Breure A. S. H. & Romero P. (2012). Taxonomy 2005 taxonomy This taxon was placed as the tribe Odontostomini, in the subfamily Bulimulinae, within the family Orthalicidae, according to the taxonomy of the Gastropoda (Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005). 2010 taxonomy Breure et al. (2010) elevated Odontostomini to Odontostomidae.Breure A. S. H., Groenenberg D. S. J. & Schilthuizen M. (2010). "New insights in the phylogenetic relations ... Original description Lamarck originally described ''Anostoma depressum'' under name ''Anostoma depressa'' as follows: "Coquille suborbiculaire, convexe des deux côtés, un peu déprimée, obtusement carénée, imperforée, glabre; blanchâtre avec une ligne circulaire rougeâtre au-dessus; ouverture à cinq dents; lèvre fortement réfléchie." Translated from French language: "Shell suborbicular, convex on both sides, a little depressed, obtusely carinated, imperforate, glabrous; whitish with a circular reddish line above; aperture five toothed; lip strongly reflexed." Shell description The shell of this species is biconvex, the altitude about half the diameter, angular at the periphery, whitish, more or less brown-tinted, the base dappled with oblong spots or streaks arranged concentrical ... Mollusk
Mollusca is a phylum of protostomic invertebrate animals, whose members are known as molluscs or mollusks (). Around 76,000 extant species of molluscs are recognized, making it the second-largest animal phylum after Arthropoda. The number of additional fossil species is estimated between 60,000 and 100,000, and the proportion of undescribed species is very high. Many taxa remain poorly studied. Molluscs are the largest marine phylum, comprising about 23% of all the named marine organisms. They are highly diverse, not just in size and anatomical structure, but also in behaviour and habitat, as numerous groups are freshwater and even terrestrial species. The phylum is typically divided into 7 or 8 taxonomic classes, of which two are entirely extinct. Cephalopod molluscs, such as squid, cuttlefish, and octopuses, are among the most neurologically advanced of all invertebrates—and either the giant squid or the colossal squid is the largest known extant i ...
