Tom Harris (born 11 May 1962) is an American announcer and sportscaster specializing in Thoroughbred horse racing. His style of race announcing is often described as traditional with European and American influences that feature his signature phrase "runners away". Background Tom Harris was born in Dallas, Texas. He started calling horse races at the age of 19 as an apprentice while still attending college, studying broadcast journalism at Arizona State University. Harris was mentored by Bob Weems, who was the long time renowned voice of Monmouth Park in Oceanport, New Jersey and Turf Paradise in Phoenix, Arizona. Though he had announced Greyhound Races at Phoenix Greyhound Park in 1981, he landed his first Horse Race Track Announcer position in 1987 at La Mesa Park in Raton, New Mexico. Thomas Harris (born 20 February 1964) is a British journalist and former politician who served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Glasgow South, formerly Glasgow Cathcart, from 2001 to 2015. A former member of Scottish Labour, he left the party in August 2018. Since 2021 he has been lead non-executive director of the Office of the Secretary of State for Scotland and Advocate General for Scotland. Harris first entered government when he was made a Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Transport in September 2006 by PM Tony Blair. When Gordon Brown took over as Prime Minister in June 2007, Harris kept his junior ministerial role but, in the October 2008 reshuffle, he was sacked and returned to the backbenches. Frijid Pink is an American rock band, formed in Detroit in 1967, best known for their 1969 rendition of " The House of the Rising Sun". The initial line-up of the band included drummer Richard Stevers, guitarist Gary Ray Thompson, bassist Tom Harris, lead singer Tom Beaudry (aka Kelly Green), and later added Larry Zelanka as off-staff keyboardist.
