''Time3'' (also known as ''Time Cubed'') is a 1992 three- CD compilation box set by the American rock band Journey. The tracks are arranged chronologically and include both studio and live tracks. A booklet documenting the band's history and song details is included. With the box set can be heard the progression of the band from the early days with heavy influences from Gregg Rolie (1972-1980), Aynsley Dunbar (1973-1978), and Neal Schon (1972–present), to the changes the band made with the addition of Steve Perry (1978–1997) and Jonathan Cain (1981-present), to the differences of the band after 1983, including Schon's jazz influences and the album ''Raised on Radio''. The box also features several unreleased Journey songs, alternate versions or even demos such as "Velvet Curtain", the very early (incomplete) version of "Feeling That Way" before Perry rebuilt the whole song structure. "Lights" is a song recorded by American rock band Journey and written by Steve Perry and Neal Schon, released in 1978. Background and writing The song is about Journey's city of origin, San Francisco, although it was actually written in and originally intended to be about Los Angeles. It was one of Steve Perry's first Journey songs, and was recorded soon after joining the band. In an interview, Perry said, "I had the song written in Los Angeles almost completely except for the bridge and it was written about Los Angeles. It was 'when the lights go down in the city and the sun shines on L-A.' I didn't like the way it sounded at the time. And so I just had it sitting back in the corner. Jonathan Cain
Jonathan Leonard Friga (born February 26, 1950), known professionally as Jonathan Cain, is an American musician, singer and songwriter. He is best known as the keyboardist and rhythm guitarist for Journey. He has also worked with the Babys and Bad English. Cain was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Journey in 2017. He also maintains a solo career as a contemporary Christian artist. Early life and education Cain was born in Chicago to Leonard and Nancy Friga. At the age of eight, Cain began accordion lessons, and by the time he was in his teens, he was playing accordion and piano at parties and in clubs. He also plays guitar, bass, and harmonica. Cain is a survivor of the Our Lady of the Angels School fire of 1958, which took the lives of 92 students and three nuns. "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin" is a song by American rock group Journey released as a single in 1979 from the album ''Evolution''. Lyrically, the song is about a woman who is cheating on her boyfriend, the narrator, but at the end of the song the woman's lover is cheating on her. Steven Bruce Smith (born August 21, 1954) is an American drummer best known as a member of the rock band Journey across three stints: 1978 to 1985, 1995 to 1998 and 2015 to 2020. ''Modern Drummer'' magazine readers have voted him the No. 1 All-Around Drummer five years in a row. In 2001, the publication named Smith one of the Top 25 Drummers of All Time, and in 2002 he was voted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame. ''Dream, After Dream'', performed by the American rock band Journey, is the soundtrack album to the Japanese romantic fantasy film ''Yume, Yume No Ato'' directed by fashion designer Kenzo Takada. Released in 1980 on Columbia Records, it was the seventh album-length recording by the group. The soundtrack firmly overshadowed the film itself, which enjoyed little fame. The album was a significant departure from the hard rock which characterized the band's three preceding albums, harking back to their progressive rock beginnings and relying on complex musicianship and instrumentals. Samuel Cooke (; January 22, 1931 – December 11, 1964) was an American singer and songwriter. Considered one of the most influential soul music, soul artists of all time, Cooke is commonly referred to as the "King of Soul" for his distinctive vocals, pioneering contributions to the genre, and significance in popular music. Robert Fleischman (born March 11, 1953) is an American singer and songwriter. He is known for briefly working with the rock band Journey as their lead vocalist in 1977 and occasionally thereafter as a songwriting collaborator. Biography Fleischman, originally the frontman of Los Angeles band Shatterminx in 1975, is perhaps best known as the lead singer for the rock band Journey from June until October 1977, between the group's albums, ''Next'' and ''Infinity''. He appeared in live concert performances with Journey and co-wrote and recorded numerous studio demo tracks during the band's early writing sessions for the upcoming album, ''Infinity''. Ross Valory
Ross Lamont Valory (born February 2, 1949) is an American musician who is best known as the original bass player for the rock band Journey from 1973 to 1985 and again from 1995 to 2020. Valory was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Journey in 2017. Career Ross Valory was born on February 2, 1949, in San Francisco, California. He grew up in Lafayette, California, and attended Acalanes High School. In high school, he played clarinet, bass clarinet and guitar. His mother introduced him to jazz, particularly Dave Brubeck. He played with Frumious Bandersnatch followed by Steve Miller Band appearing on '' Rock Love''.
