Tilo Baumgärtel
Tilo Baumgärtel (born 1972) is a German painter. He currently lives and works in Leipzig. Baumgärtel was born in Dresden. He attended the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig from 1991 to 1994. He is part of a group of young painters based in Leipzig, along with Matthias Weischer, Christoph Ruckhaberle and others. The common trait of the group is their production of large figurative oil paintings. His paintings derive from social realist works and propaganda posters in their draughtsmanship and dramatic use of shadow. Baumgärtel has shown work in exhibitions including "7 x Malerei" at Museum der Bildenden Künste in Leipzig, ''FUTURE/Five Artists From Germany'' at Sandroni.Rey Gallery in Los Angeles, ''Painting Show'' at Wilkinson Gallery in London and ''Life After Death'' at Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art. Hochschule Für Grafik Und Buchkunst Leipzig
The Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst (HGB) or Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig is one of the oldest art schools in Germany, dating back to 1764. The academy has four colleges specializing in fine arts, graphic design, photography and new media art with around 500 students. It is the home of two notable modern art movements, the so-called Leipzig School (painting), Leipzig School and New Leipzig School. History On 6 February 1764, Prince Francis Xavier of Saxony became the founding administrator of a new painting academy, in the name of his nephew, Prince-Elector Frederick Augustus I of Saxony, who was still a minority. Matthias Weischer
Matthias Weischer (born 1973) is a German painter living in Leipzig. He is considered to be part of the New Leipzig School. Life Born in Elte, North Rhine-Westphalia, Weischer studied painting from 1995 to 2001 and received his MA in 2003 from Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst (HGB) in Leipzig. He was a student in the master class of Professor Sighard Gille. In 2002, he was a co-founder of the artist-initiated gallery LIGA in Berlin that was run by eleven former HGB students, among them Christoph Ruckhäberle, Tim Eitel, David Schnell and Tilo Baumgärtel. LIGA was closed after two years in 2004. After cooperating with Galerie Kleindienst (Leipzig), Anthony Wilkinson (London) and EIGEN + Art (Leipzig/Berlin) Weischer is currently represented by König Gallery (Berlin) and Grimm Gallery (Amsterdam). Massachusetts Museum Of Contemporary Art
The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA) is a museum in a converted Arnold Print Works factory building complex located in North Adams, Massachusetts. It is one of the largest centers for contemporary visual art and performing arts in the United States. Built by the Arnold Print Works, which operated on the site from 1860 to 1942, the complex was used by the Sprague Electric company before its conversion. MASS MoCA originally opened with 19 galleries and of exhibition space in 1999. It has expanded since, including the 2008 expansion of Building 7 and the May 2017 addition of roughly 130,000 square feet when Building 6 was opened.
