Tiit Salumäe
Tiit Salumäe (born 25 December 1951 in Tartu) is an Estonian prelate who is the current bishop of the Western and Northern Region in Estonia, whose episcopal seat is in Haapsalu. Biography At the age of 14, Salumäe began his studies at the Church Music Department of the Institute of Theology of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church (1965–1975). After graduating from Loksa Secondary School in 1970, he studied theology at the Institute of Theology of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church. Salumäe served as a preacher for his father's congregations of Kuusalu, Lees and Loksa. He was ordained priest on 5 October 1975 and was appointed pastor of the Haapsalu congregation. From 1974 to 1988, Salumäe worked as the head of the Library of the Consortium of the EELC and later as the head of the Consortium's Publishing and Press Department. Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church
The Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church (EELC; Estonian: ''Eesti Evangeelne Luterlik Kirik'', abbreviated EELK) is a Lutheran church in Estonia. The EELC is member of the Lutheran World Federation and belongs to the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe. It is also a member of the Porvoo Communion, putting it in full communion with the Church of England and other Anglican churches in Europe. Loksa
Loksa is a town and municipality in Harju County, Estonia, best known for its shipping industry. Loksa is the northernmost town in Estonia. The town is located on the estuary of the Valgejõgi River, which drains into Hara Bay, Gulf of Finland. As of April 1, 2022, the town had a population of 2471. Etymology The village of Loksa, the town's namesake and predecessor, was first mentioned in 1631 as ''Lox''. Arnold Rüütel
Arnold Rüütel (, 10 May 1928 – 31 December 2024) was an Estonian politician. He was the third President of Estonia from 8 October 2001 to 9 October 2006. Rüütel was the second president of the country after the end of the 1944–1991 Soviet occupation, and the restoration of the independent Republic of Estonia on 20 August 1991. Biography Rüütel was born in the village of Pahavalla in Laimjala Parish, Saaremaa, Estonia on 10 May 1928. His parents were Feodor Rüütel (1900−1965) and Juulia Rüütel (1905−1990). He graduated from the Agricultural College in Jäneda in 1949. He worked as a senior agronomist in Saaremaa (1949−1950) and then as a teacher at the Tartu School of Agricultural Mechanization (1955−1957). In between those two jobs, he served his term in the Soviet Army. Alfred Tooming
Alfred Tooming (5 July 1907 – 5 October 1977) was an Estonian prelate who served as the Archbishop of Tallinn and Primate of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church between 1967 and 1977. He was born at the Idu farm in Ülejõe, Anija Parish, Governorate of Estonia in the Russian Empire, the son of Tõnu Tooming and Miina Roop. He studied at Kehra Municipal School between 1916 and 1919 and in 1927 graduated from the Jakob Westholm Gymnasium. From 1927 to 1932 he studied at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Tartu. He was ordained priest in St. Mary's Cathedral, Tallinn on 2 September 1934. In 1934 he served as vicar of St. James' Church in Võnnu and then deputy vicar of the parish in Käina. In 1935 he became vicar of St. John the Baptist Church, also known as Harju-Jaani church in Raasiku.
