Kuusalu Parish
Kuusalu Parish () is a rural municipality in northern Estonia, the largest in Harju County. After joining with the adjacent Loksa Parish in 2005, the municipality has now a population of 6,863 (as of 1 January 2009) and covers an area of . The population density is 9.7 inhabitants per km2. A significant share of the municipality's territory (between 40% and 60%) is covered by protected areas, as large parts of the Lahemaa National Park and Põhja-Kõrvemaa Nature Reserve are situated there. The eastern part of the municipality is home to the largest military training area in Estonia, the central training area of Estonian Defence Forces. The administrative centre of the municipality is Kiiu. Harju County
Harju County ( or ''Harjumaa''), is one of the fifteen counties of Estonia. It is situated in northern Estonia, on the southern coast of the Gulf of Finland, and borders Lääne-Viru County to the east, Järva County to the southeast, Rapla County to the south, and Lääne County to the southwest. The Capital (political), capital and largest city of Estonia, Tallinn, is situated in Harju County. Eduard Ahrens
Eduard Ahrens (3 April 1803, Tallinn (Reval) – 19 February 1863, Kuusalu, Estonia) was a Baltic German Estonian language linguist and clergyman. Ahrens studied at Tallinn Cathedral School from 1811 to 1819, and, from 1820 to 1823, at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Tartu. After graduating from university, he could not hold a pastor's office because he was too young (the pastors were to be at least 25 years old), so in 1824 he went to Pikavere manor, where he worked for about 8 years. In 1831, Ahrens revised the pro ministerio exam at the Estonian Consistory. In 1832, he went to study in Germany and also visited France. On returning to Estonia, he again returned to home-schooling at Vana-Vigala (with the Sievers family). Ahrens held sermons in the Vigala church in Estonian. Ludvig Oskar (5 January 1874 in Kuusalu, Estonia – 1 June 1951 in Varel, Germany) was an Estonian painter Painting is a Visual arts, visual art, which is characterized by the practice of applying paint, pigment, color or other medium to a solid surface (called "matrix" or "Support (art), support"). The medium is commonly applied to the base with .... He started his art studies in 1903, while artist Ants Laikmaa opened his studio school. In addition to studio classes Oskar took watercolor classes with Karl Winkler. After studies abroad he taught at Tallinna Reaalkool (Science High School of Tallinn). Among his students was Evald Okas. In 1926 he decided to fix Pika Jala Väravatorn (the gate tower named Long Leg at the medieval city wall of Tallinn). For this purpose he took a bank loan of half a million Estonian marks (5,000 Estonian kroons) and reconstructed the tower.
