Tibotec was a pharmaceutical company with a focus on research and development of the treatment of infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C. The company was founded in 1994 and then acquired by Johnson & Johnson and merged into its Janssen Pharmaceuticals division in 2002. Rudi Pauwels (born 1960) is a Belgian Pharmacology, pharmacologist and Biotechnology, biotech entrepreneur. He was one of the first researchers in the field of HIV, and he played a key role in the fight against the HIV/AIDS, AIDS pandemic by discovering several widely used anti-HIV drugs during his doctorate studies at the Rega Institute for Medical Research, Rega Institute (Leuven, Belgium) and while leading biotech companies Tibotec and Virco. Paul, Baron Stoffels (born 8 March 1962 in Turnhout, Belgium) is a Belgian doctor, who studied medicine at the University of Hasselt and the University of Antwerp (UA). In addition he studied Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at the Prince Leopold Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium. He is Chief Scientific Officier, Worldwide Chairman of Janssen pharmaceuticals and he is a member of the Johnson & Johnson Executive Committee. Dapivirine
Dapivirine is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor developed at Janssen Therapeutics (formerly Tibotec Therapeutics). The International Partnership for Microbicides has held exclusive worldwide rights to dapivirine since 2014, building upon a 2004 royalty-free license to develop dapivirine-based microbicides for women in resource-poor countries. Rilpivirine, sold under the brand name Edurant among others, is a medication, developed by Tibotec, used for the treatment of HIV/AIDS. It is a second-generation non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) with higher potency (pharmacology), potency, longer biological half-life, half-life and reduced adverse drug reaction, side-effect profile compared with older NNRTIs such as efavirenz. The International Partnership for Microbicides or IPM was a non-profit product development partnership (PDP) founded by Dr. Zeda Rosenberg in 2002 to prevent HIV transmission by accelerating the development and availability of a safe and effective microbicide for use by women in developing countries. Since its inception, IPM had focused on developing HIV-prevention products for women including gels, films, tablets and rings that contain antiretroviral (ARV)-based microbicides. Etravirine
Etravirine (ETR,), sold under the brand name Intelence is an antiretroviral medication used for the treatment of HIV. Etravirine is a human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI). Bedaquiline, sold under the brand name Sirturo, is a medication used for the treatment of active tuberculosis.
