Thorvald Bindesbøll Medal
The Thorvald Bindesbøll Medal () is an award granted annually by the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts for excellence in the fields of applied art and industrial design. The medal was established in 1979 in connection with the 75th anniversary of Thorvald Bindesbøll's design of the Carlsberg Pilsner label. Designed by Frode B. Bahnsen on the basis of a model by Paul Gernes, it has been awarded since 1981. Royal Danish Academy Of Fine Arts
The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts () has provided education in the arts for more than 250 years, playing its part in the development of the art of Denmark. History The Royal Danish Academy of Portraiture, Sculpture, and Architecture in Copenhagen was inaugurated on 31 March 1754, and given as a gift to the King Frederik V on his 31st birthday. Its name was changed to the Royal Danish Academy of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture in 1771. At the same event, Johann Friedrich Struensee introduced a new scheme in the academy to encourage artisan apprentices to take supplementary classes in drawing so as to develop the notion of "good taste". The building boom resulting from the Great Fire of 1795 greatly profited from this initiative. In 1814 the name was changed again, this time to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Bente Hansen (ceramist)
Bente Hansen (4 March 1940April 2022) was a Danish writer, editor and women's rights activist who was a prominent supporter of the Danish Red Stocking Movement from 1970. She published a number of books on socialism and the role of women and was coordinating editor of the daily newspaper ''Information'' in the mid-1970s, giving special attention to social movements. Biography Born on 4 March 1940 in Kolding, Hansen was the daughter of the veterinarian Hans Kristian Hansen and Grethe Vera Nornild, a teacher. Her sister was Litten Hansen. After matriculating from Vestjsk Gymnasium in Tarm, she spent a year in Brussels, returning to Denmark to study literature at the University of Copenhagen. Ole Søndergaard (architect)
Ole Laurits Olsen Søndergaard (24 May 1876 – 10 November 1958) was a Danish landscape painter. He also decorated a number of Danish churches with paintings and frescos. Biography Born in Allerslev near Lejre in northwestern Zealand, Søndergaard studied painting at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1898 to 1900. He completed his education at Kunstnernes Frie Studieskoler under Kristian Zahrtmann in 1902. Søndergaard was a versatile artist, remembered for his portraits and landscapes of the countryside around Roskilde. His paintings reveal his association with his friend L.A. Ring, especially his winter scenes with stooping figures shovelling snow. For his ''Roskilde Fjord ved Marbæk'', he received the Eckersberg Medal in 1945. Per Mollerup (20 February 1942) is a Danish designer, academic, and author. He is known for his emphasis on simplicity in design and for his wayshowing design at airports in Copenhagen, Oslo, and Stockholm, as well as the Copenhagen Metro. He is currently a Professor of Communication Design at Swinburne University of Technology's School of Design. Erik Magnussen (14 May 1884 – 24 February 1961) was a Danish silversmith and designer. He was from 1925 to 1939 based in the United States, initially as artistic director of the Gorham Manufacturing Company in New York City and later with his own workshop in first Chicago and then Los Angeles. Ursula Munch-Petersen
Ursula Munch-Petersen (born 29 December 1937) is a Danish ceramist. Biography Born in Rønne on the island of Bornholm, Ursula Munch-Petersen is the daughter of Gustaf and Lisbeth Munch-Petersen, both of whom were also ceramists and potters. She attended the Kunsthåndværkerskolen (design school) in Copenhagen from 1956 to 1960 and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1970 to 1972. In 1962, she married the artist Erik Hagens. She grew up on Bornholm and after graduating from the Academy, worked for a year in the family business in Rønne. In 1978, she acquired her own studio on Møn. Munch-Petersen's work extends from artistically designed individual items to mass-produced series of tableware. In the 1960s, she designed for Bing and Grøndahl but later worked for Royal Copenhagen. Kirsten Klein (born 18 January 1945) is a Danish photographer who since the mid-1970s has lived on the island of Mors. She has become one of Denmark's foremost landscape photographers, developing a highly characteristic, somewhat melancholic style, frequently achieved by employing older photographic techniques.
