Thonnakkal Peethambaran
Tonnakkal Peethambaran is a Kathakali exponent from Kerala, India. He has been honored with several noted awards including the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award 2003, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award 2011 and Kerala State Kathakali Award 2014. Biography Peethambaran was born on 2 December 1939, at Vilayil house in Thonnakkal, Chirayinkeezhu taluk in present-day Thiruvananthapuram District to ayurvedic physician P. Ramakrishnan Vaidyan and G. Thankamma. Pirappankode Kunjan Pillai was his first Guru. After studying for a while under Oyur Kochugovinda Pillai, he joined Tripunithura RLV college. His achievements as a Kathakali actor are due to the sincere discipline of Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair. An expert in both ''Pacha'' and ''Kathi'' roles in kathakali, his ''Kathi'' roles as Duryodhana, Kichaka and Ravana characters in the stories of ''Duryodhana Vadham'', ''Uttarasvayamvaram'' and ''Nizhal kuthu'' are famous. ''Kathakali'' (IAST: Kathakaḷi ) is a traditional form of Indian Classical Dance, and one of the most complex forms of Indian theatre. It is a play of verses. These verses are called Kathakali literature or '' Attakatha''. Mostly played in the courts of kings and temple festivals. Hence it is known as suvarna art forms. This performance uses the ''navarasas'' from the Natya Shastra text, authored by sage Bharata. Makeup and costumes are unique and large. It represents one of Kerala's traditional theater artforms. Kollam District
Kollam district (), (formerly Quilon district) is one of 14 List of districts in Kerala, districts of the state of Kerala, India. Aattakatha (performance)
Aattakatha is a literary genre in Malayalam language consisting of the libretto used for the Indian classical dance drama '' kathakali''. The word ''aatta-katha'' literally means "story for dancing and acting" (''atu'' "to sway" + ''kathā'' "story"). The narrative framework of ''aattakatha'' consists quatrains in Sanskrit metres where the diction also is heavily Sanskritised; the dialogue part, however, is made up of ''padas'', which can be set to ''raga'' (tune) and ''tala'' (rhythm) and have to be rendered by means of gestures and body movements by the actors while being sung by musicians from behind.
