Thermosbaenacea
Thermosbaenacea is a group of crustaceans that live in thermal springs in fresh water, brackish water and anchialine Habitat (ecology), habitats. They have occasionally been treated as a distinct superorder (Pancarida), but are generally considered to belong to the Peracarida. Due to their troglobite, troglobitic lifestyle, thermosbaenaceans lack visual pigments and are therefore Blindness, blind. The current distribution of some genera tallies well with the Miocene extent of the Tethys Sea, and it is assumed that the extant taxa are derived from ancestors that lived in open marine habitats. Elsewhere, the distribution is consistent with the break-up of Pangaea. The developing embryos are carried by the adult under its carapace until hatching. Peracarida
The superorder Peracarida is a large group of malacostracan crustaceans, having members in marine, freshwater, and terrestrial habitats. They are chiefly defined by the presence of a brood pouch, or ''marsupium'', formed from thin flattened plates ( oostegites) borne on the basalmost segments of the legs. Peracarida is one of the largest crustacean taxa and includes about 12,000 species. Most members are less than in length, but the largest is probably the giant isopod ('' Bathynomus giganteus'') which can reach . The earliest known perecaridian was '' Oxyuropoda ligioides'', a fossil of which has been found dating to the Late Devonian (more than 360 mya) of Ireland. An embryo ( ) is the initial stage of development for a multicellular organism. In organisms that reproduce sexually, embryonic development is the part of the life cycle that begins just after fertilization of the female egg cell by the male sperm cell. The Tethys Ocean ( ; ), also called the Tethys Sea or the Neo-Tethys, was a prehistoric ocean during much of the Mesozoic Era and early-mid Cenozoic Era.
