Theaterschool
The Academy of Theatre and Dance is a faculty of the Amsterdam University of the Arts which was known as ''de Theaterschool'' until September 2016. It runs four year Bachelor's degree courses in theatre and dance, and two year Master's degree courses offered by DAS Graduate School. The staff of instructors and guest instructors amounts to about sixty persons, nearly all also in active in the theatrical and dance field. History The Amsterdamse Toneelschool was set up in 1874 and was at first established in the Marnixstraat 150. There Anna Sablariolles was registered as first pupil, and Maria Gartman as one of its first instructors. Adriaan Van Hees
Adriaan Nicolaas Johan van Hees (3 May 1910 – 2 December 1976) was a Dutch actor and member of the National Socialist Movement in the Netherlands (NSB). Van Hees was trained in Amsterdam and Germany, and spent a few years in theater and film. He quit professional acting to join the NSB, giving speeches and overseeing the organization's theater division, arguing that the change he thought necessary in Dutch drama had to come from political revolution. He became depressed and suicidal when he discovered he was part Jewish; still, he tried to join the SS but was denied. After the war, he was banned from the stage for ten years, and sentenced to five years in prison. Biography Early career Van Hees was born in Rotterdam, the son of a theater director from Haarlem. Aart Staartjes
Aart Staartjes (1 March 1938 – 12 January 2020) was a Dutch actor, director, television presenter and documentary maker from Amsterdam. He was well known for his role on ''Sesamstraat'', the Dutch co-production of ''Sesame Street''. On this show, his character's name was ''Meneer Aart'' (Mr. Aart) and in this persona he authored a book called (Mr. Aart: Life and work of the man who does not want to be named a friend to children). Staartjes used to present the annual arrival of ''Sinterklaas'' in the Netherlands. Early life Aart Staartjes was born in Nieuwendam, a neighbourhood of Amsterdam-Noord. Rutger Hauer
Rutger Oelsen Hauer (; 23 January 1944 – 19 July 2019) was a Dutch actor. In 1999, he was named by the Dutch public as the Best Dutch Actor of the Century. An academy ( Attic Greek: Ἀκαδήμεια; Koine Greek Ἀκαδημία) is an institution of secondary or tertiary higher learning (and generally also research or honorary membership). The name traces back to Plato's school of philosophy, founded approximately 385 BC at Akademia, a sanctuary of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and skill, north of Athens, Greece. Stephen West (designer)
Stephen West is an American knitter, fashion designer, educator, and author known for his knitting patterns and strong use of color. After beginning to publish his own patterns in 2009 on sites like Knitty and Ravelry, West has also published a number of knitting books under his design brand Westknits. He owns a yarn store in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and in 2019 he launched a yarn brand called West Wool with his business partner Malia Mae Joseph. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, West moved to Chicago as a teenager. A trained dancer, he studied dance at the University of Illinois Department of Dance. Ramses Shaffy (29 August 1933 – 1 December 2009) was a Dutch-French singer and actor who became popular during the 1960s.
