''The Verdant Passage'' is a fantasy novel based on the ''Dungeons & Dragons'' role-playing game and set in the world of the ''Dark Sun'' campaign. It was written by Troy Denning and published by TSR in 1991. Plot summary A party of adventurers, each with their own objectives, work together against the evil sorcerer-king known as Kalak of Tyr, who is trying to transform himself into a deadly and immortal dragon. Publication history In 1991, TSR published a new setting for the ''Dungeons & Dragons'' role-playing game, the post-apocalyptic ''Dark Sun'' campaign set on the desert world of Athas. Gerald Brom
Gerald Brom (born March 9, 1965), known professionally as Brom, is an American Gothic art, gothic fantasy artist and illustrator, known for his work in role-playing games, novels, and comic books, comics. Early life Brom was born March 9, 1965, in Albany, Georgia. As the son of a United States Army, U.S. Army pilot he spent much of his early years on the move, living in other countries such as Japan and Germany (he graduated from Frankfurt American High School), and in U.S. states including Alabama and Hawaii. Brought up as a military dependent he was known by his last name only, and now signs his name as simply Brom: "I get that asked more than just about any other question. Troy Denning
Troy Denning is an American fantasy and science fiction author and game designer who has written more than two dozen novels. Background Denning grew up in the mountain town of Idaho Springs, Colorado. An avid reader of science fiction and fantasy, he began writing himself at the age of fourteen in 80-page spiral-bound notebooks, and began to collect the usual quantity of rejection slips. Around his eighteenth birthday, he received a rejection slip from editor Ben Bova, but one with a signature and a handwritten note thanking him for the submission. Heartened, Denning continued to write as he attended Beloit College, where he also played on their Division I (NCAA), Division I American football, football team. Career Denning joined TSR, Inc., TSR as a game designer in 1981, and was promoted a year later to Manager of Designers, before he moved to the book department. TSR, Inc. was an American game publishing company, best known as the original publisher of ''Dungeons & Dragons'' (''D&D''). Its earliest incarnation, Tactical Studies Rules, was founded in October 1973 by Gary Gygax and Don Kaye. Gygax had been unable to find a publisher for ''D&D'', a new type of game he and Dave Arneson were co-developing, so he founded the new company with Kaye to self-publish their products. Needing financing to bring their new game to market, Gygax and Kaye brought in Brian Blume in December as an equal partner. ''Amazing Stories'' is an American science fiction magazine launched in April 1926 by Hugo Gernsback's Experimenter Publishing. It was the first magazine devoted solely to science fiction. Science fiction stories had made regular appearances in other magazines, including some published by Gernsback, but ''Amazing'' helped define and launch a new genre of pulp fiction. ''Amazing'' has been published, with some interruptions, for 98 years, going through a half-dozen owners and many editors as it struggled to be profitable.
