''The Unspeakable Oath'' is a game magazine that was published by Pagan Publishing from 1990 to 2001, and later by Arc Dream Publishing starting in 2010. History Pagan Publishing was founded in 1990 in Columbia, Missouri by 19-year-old John Tynes with a volunteer staff of gamers from Columbia including Jeff Barber, Brian Bevel, John H. Crowe III, Les Dean, and Chris Klepac. Together they created ''The Unspeakable Oath'' #1 (December 1990), the company's premiere publication, a digest-sized quarterly focusing on '' Call of Cthulhu''. That first issue caught the attention of Chaosium's Keith Herber, who helped Tynes recruit Cthulhu writers like Scott David Aniolowski and Kevin Ross. Dennis Detwiller (born July 12, 1972) is an American video game designer for Hothead Games and a role-playing game designer, writer and artist. Career Dennis Detwiller started volunteering at Pagan Publishing after seeing an issue of ''The Unspeakable Oath'' magazine in 1991 and talking to John Scott Tynes. Tynes moved the company to Seattle in the mid-1990s, and Detwiller agreed to move there as well. The ENNIE Awards (previously stylized as ENnie Awards) are awards for role-playing game (RPG) products (including game-related accessories, publications, and art) and their creators. The awards were created in 2001 by Russ Morrissey of EN World in partnership with Eric Noah's Unofficial D&D Third Edition News. The ceremony has been hosted at Gen Con in Indianapolis since 2002. Since 2018, EN World is no longer associated with the awards. The ENNIES comprise two rounds. In the first round, publishers submit their products for nomination. Entries are judged by five democratically elected judges. The nominated products are voted on by the public in the second round. Cthulhu is a fictional cosmic entity created by writer H. P. Lovecraft. It was first introduced in his short story " The Call of Cthulhu", published by the American pulp magazine '' Weird Tales'' in 1928. TSR, Inc. was an American game publishing company, best known as the original publisher of ''Dungeons & Dragons'' (''D&D''). Its earliest incarnation, Tactical Studies Rules, was founded in October 1973 by Gary Gygax and Don Kaye. Gygax had been unable to find a publisher for ''D&D'', a new type of game he and Dave Arneson were co-developing, so founded the new company with Kaye to self-publish their products. Needing financing to bring their new game to market, Gygax and Kaye brought in Brian Blume in December as an equal partner.
