The Truth (Ledisi Album)
''The Truth'' is the seventh studio album by American singer-songwriter Ledisi. It was released on March 11, 2014, by Verve Records. After the release of her previous album ''Pieces of Me (Ledisi album), Pieces of Me'' (2011), Ledisi took a music hiatus to pursue acting roles, appearing the films ''Leave It on the Floor'' (2011) and ''Selma (film), Selma'' (2014); the latter of which she portrayed American gospel singer Mahalia Jackson. She returned to music in 2013 and recorded the album in a brief period of time. The album saw the return of previous collaborations with songwriters and record producers Rex Rideout, Chuck Harmony, Claude Kelly; the latter two who produced "Pieces of Me", the lead single of the Ledisi's previous album ''Pieces of Me (Ledisi album), Pieces of Me'' (2011). Ledisi Anibade Young (; born March 28, 1972), better known simply as Ledisi, is an American singer-songwriter, music producer, author, and actress. Her name means "to bring forth" or "to come here" in Yoruba. In 1995, Ledisi formed a band after her middle name Anibade. After unsuccessfully trying to get signed to a major label, she formed LeSun Music with musician Sundra Manning. She released her debut album '' Soulsinger'' (2000), which featured the single "Take Time", which gained substantial airplay from San Francisco area radio stations. The company hosts an annual award show of the same name that honors and promotes Black women's achievements. Richard Martin Lloyd Walters (born January 14, 1965), better known as Slick Rick, is an English-American rapper and record producer. He rose to prominence as part of Doug E. Fresh & the Get Fresh Crew in the mid-1980s. His songs " The Show" and " La Di Da Di" are considered early hip hop classics. "La Di Da Di" is one of the most sampled songs in history. Black Heat was a 1970s funk band founded by King Raymond Green and discovered by Phillip Guilbeau. They released three albums: '' Black Heat'' (with guest artist David "Fathead" Newman), '' No Time To Burn'' and '' Keep On Runnin'''. Mary Jane Girls
The Mary Jane Girls were an American girl group formed in 1979, best known for their songs "In My House", "All Night Long (Mary Jane Girls song), All Night Long", "Candy Man", and their cover version of "Walk Like a Man (The Four Seasons song), Walk Like a Man". They were protégées of musician Rick James and disbanded in 1987. Joanne "Jojo" McDuffie was the lead singer, the others filling out the group's style and appearance. On the studio recordings, McDuffie was backed by Backing vocalist, session vocalists rather than the other Mary Jane Girls.
