The Shining Adventure
''The Shining Adventure'' is a 1925 American silent drama film directed by Hugo Ballin and starring Percy Marmont, Mabel Ballin, and Ben Alexander. Plot As described in a film magazine review, a philanthropic but not very practical woman is admired by a rugged doctor who in serving the poor finds in a tenement house the sister of the philanthropist. She is in poor mental and physical health and her baby son is not properly cared for. The doctor gives the child into the rich woman’s care and the mother disappears. The rich woman neglects the child, and finally it wanders to the neighborhood of its old home. The boy’s mother, who is now definitely demented, finds him, and loses him again, the last time by death. Then she reveals her identity to her sister. Conscience stricken, the rich woman promises to make amends. Hugo Ballin
Hugo Ballin (March 7, 1879 – November 27, 1956) was an American artist, muralist, author, and film director. Ballin was a member of the National Institute of Arts and Letters and the National Academy of Design. Biography Ballin was born in New York City and studied at the Art Students League of New York. When the Wisconsin State Capital was built in the early 20th century, Ballin created 26 murals for its interior. In 1917, he began working for Goldwyn Pictures in New Jersey as an art director and production designer, and in 1921, he moved to Los Angeles at the request of Samuel Goldwyn. He was soon also directing, writing, and producing silent films for his own production company. He was married to the actress Mabel Croft Ballin. When Hollywood began making talking pictures, Ballin left the film industry to return to his first career as a classically trained artist. Toby Wing (born Martha Virginia Wing; July 14, 1915 – March 22, 2001), "Toby" being an old family nickname, was an American actress and showgirl, once called "the most beautiful chorus girl in Hollywood". Early years Wing was born in Amelia Court House, Virginia, to Paul Wing and Martha Thraves. Her father, a career reserve Army officer, was an assistant director for Paramount Pictures. He was reactivated for service prior to World War II and was captured by the Japanese and survived the Bataan Death March. Miriam Battista (July 14, 1912 – December 22, 1980) was an American actress known principally for her early career as a Child actor, child star in silent films. After gaining notice in Broadway theatre at the age of four, she was cast in films the same year. Her most famous appearance was in the 1920 film ''Humoresque (1920 film), Humoresque'' in which she played a little girl on crutches.
