The Panel (Australian TV Series)
''The Panel'' was an Australian television talk show that was broadcast by Network Ten and its affiliates; it was also simulcast on the Triple M radio network. The show was produced by Working Dog Productions and included several members of the former D-Generation and ''The Late Show'' casts. The show featured a panel of five (originally six) people who discuss and joke about items in the news, current affairs, and pop culture. Episodes of ''The Panel'' screened at 9.30pm on Wednesday nights. Episodes were scheduled to run one hour but would often finish late, delaying the live news broadcast scheduled for 10.30pm immediately afterwards. The series premiered in 1998 and was very popular in its first few years. Between 2003 and 2007 the show also broadcast an annual Christmas special. Jeff Stilson
Jeff Stilson (born c. 1959) is an American stand-up comedian, writer and TV producer. Biography Stilson was born in Spokane, Washington. He began his stand up career in Seattle in the mid 1980s. As a stand up he has appeared on ''Late Night with David Letterman'', ''The Tonight Show'', Comedy Central, '' The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson'', and was a regular guest on '' The Panel'' in Australia. Stephen Quartermain
Stephen William Quartermain (born 7 May 1962) is an Australian television personality, journalist and presenter. Quartermain is currently a sport presenter on ''10 News First'' in Melbourne. Early career Quartermain began his career as a cadet journalist with Leader Newspapers in January 1980. He then joined the ABC in 1982, where he worked as a radio and television journalist, covering general news, politics, police rounds, finance, industrial affairs and sport. Jesse Martin
Jesse Martin, OAM (born 26 August 1981), is a German-Australian sailor who in 1999, at age 18, became the youngest person to circumnavigate the globe solo, non-stop and unassisted, Martin's journey in the S&S 34 sloop ''Lionheart-Mistral'' took approximately 11 months. He chronicled his adventures in the book ''Lionheart: A Journey of the Human Spirit'', and his story was made into a documentary, ''Lionheart: The Jesse Martin Story''. ''Lionheart'' voyage At 17, Martin departed Melbourne for a world voyage on his yacht, ''Lionheart''. He arrived back in Melbourne on 31 October 1999 and sailed into the record books at age 18. The entire journey covered 328 days and in all. Since Martin's voyage, the World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSRC) have discontinued the "youngest" category and no longer recognise "human condition" records. Tony Martin (comedian)
Anthony Francis Martin (born 10 June 1964) is a New Zealand comedian, writer and actor, who has had a successful TV, radio, stand-up and film career in Australia. Career 1980s A former stand-up comedian and commercial voice-over-man, Tony Martin moved to Brisbane, Australia, from New Zealand when he was 21 to work as a radio copywriter. Having worked in radio and amateur theatre back in NZ, Martin approached the ABCTV's '' The D-Generation'' in 1986 to work as a writer only to be told that filming on the first series had been completed. In the interim, he was invited to work as a researcher on ABC-TV's '' The Gillies Republic'' which was the follow-up to the highly successful political satire ''The Gillies Report'' (1984–85). Brian Nankervis
Brian Nankervis is an Australian writer, actor, radio host, television producer and comedian. He is one of the co-creators of the music quiz show, ''RocKwiz'' and co-hosts ''The Friday Revue'' with Jacinta Parsons on ABC Radio Melbourne. Early life Nankervis was born in Melbourne. Harry Shearer
Harry Julius Shearer (born December 23, 1943) is an American actor, comedian, musician, radio host, writer, and producer. Born in Los Angeles, California, Shearer began his career as a child actor. From 1969 to 1976, Shearer was a member of The Credibility Gap, a radio comedy group.
