The Gentle Touch
''The Gentle Touch'' is a British police procedural drama series made by London Weekend Television for ITV which began on 11 April 1980 and ran until 24 November 1984. The series is notable for being the first British series to feature a female police officer as its leading character, ahead of, by four months, the similarly themed BBC series '' Juliet Bravo''. Series history The series starred Jill Gascoine as Detective Inspector Maggie Forbes, who has worked her way up through the ranks of the police force and is based at the fictional Seven Dials police station in London. Maggie's husband, a police constable, is murdered during the first episode, leaving her to juggle her career with single parenthood, raising her teenage son. Terence Feely
Terence John Feely (20 July 1928 – 13 August 2000) was a British screenwriter, playwright and author. His work spanned five decades and included creating the ITV police drama series ''The Gentle Touch'' (1980–84) and its spin-off '' C.A.T.S. Eyes'' (1985–87). His theater play script titled “Who Killed Santa Claus” was published by French in 1971. Life and career Feely was born into a middle-class Roman Catholic family of Irish descent in Liverpool. After leaving school, he entered Liverpool's Jesuit College where he studied English and psychology. Upon completion of his university studies, he decided to go into journalism, and got a job with a small local newspaper in Middlesbrough. However, he quickly outgrew the publication, and moved to London where he secured a position in the faster-paced world of Fleet Street, joining the editorial staff of the '' Sunday Graphic''. Michael Graham Cox
Michael Graham Cox (6 January 1938 – 30 April 1995) was an English actor. Career Born at Wolverhampton, and educated at Wolverhampton Grammar School, Cox moved to London after graduating in Music with German from Bristol University in the 1960s. First living at a flat in Oxford Street, he soon settled at Randolph Crescent W9, later being relocated by The Paddington Church Commissioners to a garden flat around the corner at 32 Clifton Gardens close to his favourite pubs The Warrington, The Prince Alfred, and The Warwick Castle, where he frequently socialised with friends including Jane Morgan, Tony Osoba, Michael Aspel and John Inman.
