The Game (band)
The Game was a band from Mitcham, England. They attracted widespread controversy after a seven-minute discussion of their 1967 single, "The Addicted Man", was withdrawn from an episode of ''Juke Box Jury''. Career Early releases The Game formed in 1963 in Mitcham; lead guitarist Terry Spencer and bassist Allen Janaway had previously played in Surrey-based band the Secrets, and the line-up also contained the then-14-year-old rhythm guitarist Tony Bird. Their first record, "Gotta Keep Movin' Baby", was a rock and roll song co-authored by Kenny Lynch, and was released in 1965 on Pye Records. After it flopped, the band changed to Decca Records, became a Mod band, and released "Gonna Get Me Someone", another flop. They then signed to Parlophone Records, and tried to release an anti-drug single, "The Addicted Man", which had lyrics written by Lesley Blake and music by Alan Gowing and Terry Brown. Mitcham is an area within the London Borough of Merton in South London, England. It is centred southwest of Charing Cross. Originally a village in the county of Surrey, today it is mainly a residential suburb, and includes Mitcham Common. It has been a settlement throughout recorded history. Peter Murray James, (born 19 September 1925), known professionally as Pete Murray, is a British radio and television presenter and actor. He is known for his career with the BBC, including stints on the Light Programme, Radio 1, Radio 2 and Radio 4. In the 1950s, Murray became one of Britain's first pop music television presenters, hosting the rock and roll programme ''Six-Five Special'' (1957–1958) and appearing as a regular panellist on ''Juke Box Jury'' (1959–1967). The Who
The Who are an English Rock music, rock band formed in London in 1964. In typography, text or font in all caps (short for "all capitals") contains capital letters without any lowercase letters. My Friend Jack
"My Friend Jack" is a psychedelic rock song released by the English freakbeat group The Smoke in 1967. It was included originally in their debut album ''It's Smoke Time'', and it was also included (among other compilation albums) in the collection ''Nuggets II: Original Artyfacts from the British Empire and Beyond, 1964–1969'' (Rhino Entertainment, Rhino, 2001). It was credited to all four band members: Geoff Gill, Mal Luker, Zeke Lund and Mick Rowley. The song was later covered by Boney M. Background "My Friend Jack" was the only international hit by The Smoke. The song seems to suggest the use of psychedelic drugs (specifically LSD) in lines such as “My Friend Jack eats sugar lumps” and suggests traversing the world inside his mind (such as “Been on a voyage, across an ocean”). The Smoke
The Smoke were an English psychedelic pop group from York. They consisted of Mick Rowley (Lead vocalist, lead Singing, vocals), Mal Luker (lead instrument, lead guitar), John "Zeke" Lund (Bass guitar, bass) and Geoff Gill (Drum kit, drums and compositor). The band originally performed around Yorkshire as The Moonshots, changing their name to The Shots when they moved to London. There were two bands playing Rhythm and blues, R&B and other cover versions, one called Tony Adams and the Viceroys, which included John 'Zeke' Lund on bass, Mal Luker on lead guitar and Geoff Gill on drums. The other band was The Moonshots, which included Mick Rowley on lead vocals and Phil Peacock on rhythm guitar (born Philip Peacock, 7 June 1946, Newcastle upon Tyne, Newcastle, Northumbria).
