''The Fourth Reich'' (''El Cuatro Reich'') is a 1990 South African biographical drama film directed by Manie van Rensburg and co-produced by Gert Basson, Mark Jaffee, David Selvan, Bill Shapter and Reg Wessels for Zastron Films. The film stars an ensemble South Africa cast, with Ryno Hattingh starring in the lead as Robey Leibbrandt. Supporting cast included Marius Weyers, Grethe Fox and Percy Sieff. Also supporting were many popular South African dramatists. The film revolves around the life of Robey Leibbrandt, a South African boxer who participated in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. While at the Games he was courted by the Nazis in an attempt to recruit him as an agent in South Africa. Leibbrandt embraced Nazi ideology, which culminated in his becoming an Abwehr agent for the Third Reich. Marius Weyers (born 3 February 1945, in Johannesburg) is a South African actor. He lives with his wife Yvette, an artist in her own right, in Rooi-Els in the Western Cape. Ben Kruger (25 March 1957 – 26 May 2021) was a South African actor and author, best known for his roles in the popular serials ''Snake Island'', ''Binnelanders'' and ''Zero Tolerance''. Personal life He was born on 25 March 1957 in Bothaville, South Africa. His father was a pastor in the local AGS congregation. His mother was from Bloemfontein. At the age of two, he moved to Cape Town with his family. Then at the age of four, he moved to Johannesburg where he completed his schooling at Helpmekaar Boys' High School. After school, Kruger served in the South African Navy for 18 months, as he was conscripted for national service, after which he obtained his BA (Drama) at the University of Pretoria. On 26 May 2021, Kruger died at his home in Brooklyn, Pretoria at the age of 64, as a result of COVID-19 complications. Jan Smuts
Field Marshal Jan Christian Smuts, (24 May 1870 11 September 1950) was a South African statesman, military leader and philosopher. In addition to holding various military and cabinet posts, he served as Prime Minister of South Africa, prime minister of the Union of South Africa from 1919 to 1924 and 1939 to 1948. Smuts was born to Afrikaner parents in the British Cape Colony. He was educated at Stellenbosch University, Victoria College, Stellenbosch before reading law at Christ's College, Cambridge on a scholarship. He was call to the bar, called to the bar at the Middle Temple in 1894 but returned home the following year. In the leadup to the Second Boer War, Smuts practised law in Pretoria, the capital of the South African Republic.
