The Crackerjack
''The Crackerjack'' is a 1925 American silent film, silent comedy film directed by Charles Hines (director), Charles Hines and starring Johnny Hines, Sigrid Holmquist, and Henry West (actor), Henry West. A travelling Pickling, pickle salesman gets mixed up in a Latin American revolution. Plot As described in a film magazine review, Tommy Perkins meets and falls in love with Rose Bannon, daughter of General Bannon. The general is in New York City with the revolutionist Alonzo López, who plans to overthrow the government of Esquasado. Perkins is called to the South by his uncle who wishes him to take over a pickle factory that is on its last legs. He applies crackerjack methods to build up the business, and runs into Rose while going about his work. When he learns of a plot to overthrow the South American government, he aids in frustrating those plans. The pickle business blooms and he marries Rose. Charles Hines (director)
Charles Hines (1892–1936) was an American actor and film director of the silent era.Munden p. 359 Born in Pennsylvania, he was the second of three brothers who had careers in the new film industry. He died at the age of 43 in Los Angeles, California. His younger brother, actor Johnny Hines, appeared in 50 films, mostly during the silent era. Hines directed him in some of these films. Their older brother Samuel E. Hines had mostly bit-parts in silents. Bradley Barker
Bradley Barker (January 18, 1883 – September 29, 1951) was an American actor and director of the silent film era. He also created sound effects for film and radio. Biography Born in Long Island, New York, Barker was a vaudeville performer and an actor in stock theater. He appeared in 70 films between 1915 and 1928. He also directed seven films between 1929 and 1930. After he worked as an actor, Barker began creating sound effects for radio programs and films. He provided the sound of the MGM lion on screen before the studio began using a recording of a real lion and provided sounds of a variety of animals on radio. Radio programs on which he worked included ''Let's Pretend'' and ''Little Orphan Annie''. On September 29, 1951, Barker died at his home in New York City at age 68.
