Bradley Barker
Bradley Barker (January 18, 1883 – September 29, 1951) was an American actor and director of the silent film era. He also created sound effects for film and radio. Biography Born in Long Island, New York, Barker was a vaudeville performer and an actor in stock theater. He appeared in 70 films between 1915 and 1928. He also directed seven films between 1929 and 1930. After he worked as an actor, Barker began creating sound effects for radio programs and films. He provided the sound of the MGM lion on screen before the studio began using a recording of a real lion and provided sounds of a variety of animals on radio. Radio programs on which he worked included ''Let's Pretend'' and ''Little Orphan Annie''. On September 29, 1951, Barker died at his home in New York City at age 68. ''Erstwhile Susan'' is a 1919 American silent drama film directed by John S. Robertson, produced and distributed by Realart Pictures. It is based on a 1914 novel ''Barnabetta'' by Helen Reimensnyder Martin and later Broadway play ''Erstwhile Susan'' by Marian De Forest. Minnie Maddern Fiske starred in the Broadway play in 1916. ''Silas Marner: The Weaver of Raveloe'' is the third novel by English author George Eliot, pen name of Mary Ann Evans. It was published on 2 April 1861. An outwardly simple tale of a linen weaver, the novel is notable for its strong realism and its sophisticated treatment of a variety of issues ranging from religion to industrialisation to community. Plot summary The novel is set in the early years of the 19th century. Silas Marner, a weaver, is a member of a small Calvinist congregation in Lantern Yard, a slum street in Northern England. He is falsely accused of stealing the congregation's funds while watching over the very ill deacon.
