Neil Armfield
Neil Geoffrey Armfield (born 22 April 1955) is an Australian director of theatre, film and opera. Biography Born in Sydney, Armfield is the third and youngest son of Len, a factory worker at the nearby Arnott's Biscuits factory and Nita Armfield. He was brought up in the suburb of Concord, adjacent to Exile Bay. He was educated at the Homebush Boys High School where, in 1972, he was the vice-captain. In that year, Armfield directed the school's production of A. A. Milne's ''Toad of Toad Hall'' which garnered him the award of "Best Director" at the NSW High Schools Drama Festival. When asked in 2019: "Who or what was your biggest influence?" Armfield said; "Lindsay Daines at Homebush State High School, who encouraged my theatrical aspirations." Stephen Abbott (born 24 March 1956) is an Australian comedian and author, also known under the comedic moniker of The Sandman or occasionally Sandy. Career Abbott is an Australian comedian, actor, author, poet, screenwriter and musician. The Castanet Club
The Castanet Club was an Australian cabaret collective from Newcastle Australia which spawned several well known media personalities. History ''The Castanet Club'' (colloquially known as ''the Castanets'') began playing at the Clarendon Hotel in Newcastle in 1982. They soon gathered a following and played venues all around Newcastle before adopting the premises of an ex disco adjoining the Clarendon Hotel. The venue was decorated by the group along with local artist Michael Bell in Bell's "acid-trip circus aesthetic" and itself became known as the Castanet Club, having the name across the front of the building. The Castanets played here and invited guest artists to perform, some of whom joined the group. At one stage, in 1983, Tiny Tim played the venue sharing the stage with the band.
