Thames Polytechnic Football Club was a football club based in Eltham, England. History Founded shortly after the creation of Woolwich Polytechnic, Woolwich Polytechnic joined the London League Division One in 1924. In 1945, the club entered the FA Cup for the first time, playing Lloyds, losing in the first qualifying round following a replay. In 1956, Woolwich Polytechnic left the London League to play in the Kent County League, returning in 1963. The following year, the club were founding members of the Greater London League. In 1971, the club were placed in the Metropolitan–London League and renamed Thames Polytechnic, following the merger between the institution and the Hammersmith College of Art and Building. In 1975, Thames Polytechnic became founding members of the London Spartan League, following the Metropolitan–London League's merger with the Spartan League. Eltham
Eltham ( ) is a district of South London, southeast London, England, within the Royal Borough of Greenwich. It is east-southeast of Charing Cross, and is identified in the London Plan as one of 35 major centres in Greater London. The three wards of Eltham North, South and West have a total population of 35,459. 88,000 people live in Eltham. History Origins Eltham developed along part of the road from London to Maidstone, and lies almost due south of Woolwich. Mottingham, to the south, became part of the parish on the abolition of all extra-parochial areas, which were rare anomalies in the parish system. Eltham College and other parts of Mottingham were therefore not considered within Eltham's boundaries even before the 1860s. From the sixth century Eltham was in the ancient Lathe of Sutton at Hone. Southern Counties East Football League
The Southern Counties East Football League is an English football league established in 1966, which has teams based in Kent and Southeast London. Until 2013, it was known as the Kent League. There was a previous Kent League, that existed from 1894 to 1959. History The first Kent League was formed in 1894 and folded in 1959. Despite many of the same clubs having spells in membership, there is no direct connection between the two competitions. The current incarnation of the league was formed in 1966 as the Kent Premier League (changing to Kent Football League in 1968), and in its early years many of its members were reserve sides of Southern League teams. Gradually, the reserve sides were all shifted down into the lower divisions. The Football Association Challenge Vase, usually referred to as the FA Vase, is an annual football competition for teams playing in Steps 5 and 6 of the English National League System (or equivalently, tier 9 or 10 of the overall English football league system). For the 2017–18 season 619 entrants were accepted, with two qualifying rounds preceding the six proper rounds, semi-finals (played over two legs) and final to be played at Wembley Stadium.
