''Thai Piranthal Vazhi Pirakkum'' () is a 1958 Indian Tamil-language satirical drama film, written directed and produced by A. K. Velan in his directorial debut. The film stars S. S. Rajendran and M. N. Rajam, with Prem Nazir, Rajasulochana and V. K. Ramasamy in supporting roles. Released on 14 January 1958, it emerged a major commercial success, and was remade in Telugu as '' Manchi Manasuku Manchi Rojulu'' (1958), in Hindi as '' Barkha'' (1959), and in Kannada as '' Rowdy Ranganna'' (1968). Plot Chokkanathan is a greedy and money obsessed man. He dislikes Rangan as he supports farmers. Marudhi is Rangan's sister. Her marriage gets stopped and Rangan goes to jail because of Chokkanathan. ''Ananda Vikatan'' is a Tamil-language weekly magazine published from Chennai, India. History ''Ananda Vikatan'' was started by Late Pudhoor Vaidyanadhaiyar in February 1926 as a monthly publication. The issue for December 1927 was not published due to financial difficulties. Suratha () (23 November 1921 – 20 June 2006) was a Tamil poet, recognized for his poetic use of similes. He was called "Uvamai Kavignar" ("poet of comparisons"). Early life Suratha was born in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu as T. Rajagopal on 23 November 1921. He derived his pen name from Subburathnadasan ( Bharathidasan, a poet of yesteryear). Pongal (festival)
Pongal is a multi-day Hindu harvest festival celebrated by Tamils. The festival is celebrated over three or four days with Bhogi, Thai Pongal, Mattu Pongal and Kaanum Pongal, beginning on the last day of the Tamil calendar month of Margazhi, and observed on consecutive days. Thai Pongal is observed on the first day of the Tamil calendar month of Thai and usually falls on 14 or 15 January in the Gregorian calendar. It is dedicated to the solar deity Surya and corresponds to Makar Sankranti, the Hindu observance celebrated under various regional names across the Indian subcontinent.
