Texas Star Flyer
Texas Star Flyer is a Funtime Star Flyer operating at Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier. The ride opened to the public on July 27, 2012. The ride was installed by Ride Entertainment Group, who handles all of Funtime's operations in North America. Ride The ride is a Swing ride where riders soar in a circle at speeds over up on a tall tower overlooking the park and the Gulf of Mexico, while going forwards and or backwards. First pieces of Texas Star Flyer arrived at the pier in the middle of January 2012. ''Texas Star Flyer'' is similar to SkyScreamer that is found at several other Six Flags parks including Six Flags Fiesta Texas found in the same state of Texas. Once opened Texas Star Flyer was the tallest swing ride in Texas, until the Texas SkyScreamer opened at Six Flags Over Texas in May 2013. Funtime is an amusement ride manufacturer based in Dölsach, Austria. The company manufactures rides such as the Sling Shot, Star Flyer, and Vomatron. History In 1998, Funtime was established in the suburb of Bundall on the Gold Coast, Australia. Shortly after, the company opened a small amusement park in Surfers Paradise, a nearby Gold Coast suburb. At the time, the amusement park was known as Adrenalin Park and featured the company's Sling Shot and Vomatron rides. In 2010, Funtime threatened legal action against Dutch amusement ride manufacturer, Mondial, after that company unveiled the WindSeeker which bears similarities to Funtime's patented Star Flyer ride. Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier is a pleasure pier in Galveston, Texas, United States. Opened in the summer of 2012, it has 1 roller coaster, 15 rides, carnival games and souvenir shops. History The new Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier was built out over the Gulf of Mexico waters. It had its "soft" opening on May 25, 2012. The new pier complex is located where the original Pleasure Pier stood from 1943 until 1961, when it was destroyed by Hurricane Carla. The original Pleasure Pier featured rides, an arcade, an aquarium, concessions, a large ball room, named the Marine Ballroom, and fishing at the end of the pier. It was also the site of the USS Flagship Hotel, an over-the-water hotel built in 1965 that was demolished after Hurricane Ike in 2008. The swing ride or chair swing ride (sometimes called a swing carousel, wave swinger, yo-yo, waver swinger, Chair-O-Planes, Dodo or swinger) is an amusement ride that is a variation on the carousel in which the seats are suspended from the rotating top of the carousel. SkyScreamer is an amusement ride located at several Six Flags theme parks in North America. Designed by Funtime, an Austrian ride manufacturer, the attraction is one of their "Star Flyer" models. Since 2011, Six Flags has installed SkyScreamers in ten of their parks. Riders aboard SkyScreamer are carried aloft in two-person swing-like chairs attached to a rotating gondola mounted on a central tower. Six Flags Fiesta Texas, formerly known simply as Fiesta Texas, is a theme park located in Northwest San Antonio. It opened on March 14, 1992, in the La Cantera master-planned development and district as the first business in that development. Spanning , the park was originally built to become a destination musical show park with its focus on the musical culture of the state of Texas.
