Terry Williams (drummer)
Terrence Williams (born 11 January 1948) is a retired Welsh rock drummer. During the 1970s and early 1980s Williams was drummer with Dave Edmunds / Rockpile and Man. Rockpile split in 1981 and Williams joined Dire Straits from 1982 until 1988. Williams was born in Swansea. During the 1960s, he played in a number of Welsh bands, including Commancheros, the Smokeless Zone, Dream and Plum Crazy, before joining Dave Edmunds' band Love Sculpture. In 1970 he joined the Welsh rock group Man, which included two former Dream and Smokeless Zone members, Deke Leonard and Martin Ace. Between 1981 and 1982, Williams was part of the Neverland Express band, backing Meat Loaf. In June 1982 Williams joined Dire Straits as the replacement for drummer Pick Withers, shortly after the release of their fourth studio album '' Love Over Gold''. ''Extendedance Play'' (stylized as ''ExtendedancEPlay'') is a studio 12" EP by British rock band Dire Straits, released on 14 January 1983 by Vertigo Records internationally, and by Warner Bros. Records in the United States. The record contains three tracks on the international version and four on the U.S. version, which also included the song "Badges, Posters, Stickers, T-Shirts," an outtake from the '' Love over Gold'' sessions that had been released in other territories as the b-side to " Private Investigations". The EP consists of upbeat tracks with a rock and roll, jazz and swing feel. It is the first release by the band to feature drummer Terry Williams, who filled the spot after drummer Pick Withers left the group in 1982. "Private Dancer" is a song written by British musician Mark Knopfler and recorded by singer Tina Turner, first released in October 1984. The song was intended to be for Knopfler’s band Dire Straits, but was never fully recorded or released by the band. He ended up giving the song to Turner, with her recording being produced by John Carter for her fifth solo album of the same name and released as the album's fifth single. In a fresh recording session, Dire Straits (minus Knopfler) backed Jeff Beck on lead guitar and Straits' touring saxophonist, Mel Collins. The track reached number seven on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and number three on the US R&B chart. The song had moderate international success, reaching number 26 on the UK Singles Chart. The album contains music composed for the 1984 film ''Cal'', produced by David Puttnam and directed by Pat O'Connor. Puttnam also produced the film '' Local Hero'' (1983). Knopfler played the track "Father And Son" on his 2013 tour as an instrumental intro to the song "Hill Farmer's Blues." David Terence Puttnam, Baron Puttnam, CBE, HonFRSA, HonFRPS, MRIA (; born 25 February 1941), is a British-Irish film producer, educator, environmentalist and former member of the House of Lords. Phillip Everly (January 19, 1939 – January 3, 2014) was an American musician, who was one half of the duo The Everly Brothers alongside his older brother Don. Early life Phil was born in Chicago in 1939 to Isaac Milford "Ike" Everly, Jr. (1908–1975), a guitar player, and Margaret Embry Everly (1919–2021). He was of German, English and Cherokee descent. The Everly family moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, in 1953, where the brothers attended West High School. In 1955, the family moved to Madison, Tennessee, while the brothers moved to Nashville. Mark Knopfler
Mark Freuder Knopfler OBE (born 12 August 1949) is a British musician. He was the lead guitarist, singer and songwriter of the rock band Dire Straits from 1977 to 1995, and he is the one of the two members who stayed during the band's existence, along with the bassist John Illsley. He pursued a solo career after the band dissolved, and is now an independent artist. Knopfler was born in Glasgow, and raised in Blyth, Northumberland, Blyth, near Newcastle upon Tyne, Newcastle. After graduating from the University of Leeds and working for three years as a college lecturer, Knopfler co-founded Dire Straits with his younger brother, David Knopfler. The band recorded six albums, including ''Brothers in Arms (album), Brothers in Arms'' (1985), one of the List of best-selling albums, best-selling albums in history.
