Private Dancer (Tina Turner Song)
"Private Dancer" is a song written by British musician Mark Knopfler and recorded by singer Tina Turner, first released in October 1984. The song was intended to be for Knopfler’s band Dire Straits, but was never fully recorded or released by the band. He ended up giving the song to Turner, with her recording being produced by John Carter for her fifth solo album of the same name and released as the album's fifth single. In a fresh recording session, Dire Straits (minus Knopfler) backed Jeff Beck on lead guitar and Straits' touring saxophonist, Mel Collins. The track reached number seven on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and number three on the US R&B chart. The song had moderate international success, reaching number 26 on the UK Singles Chart. Roger Scott (23 October 1943 – 31 October 1989) was a British radio disc jockey. He was best known for presenting an afternoon radio show on Capital London from 1973 until 1988 and a late night Sunday show, ''Scott on Sunday'' on BBC Radio 1 until his death from stomach cancer. A taxi dancer is a paid dance partner in a ballroom dance. Taxi dancers work (sometimes for money but not always) on a dance-by-dance basis. When taxi dancing first appeared in taxi-dance halls during the early 20th century in the United States, male patrons typically bought dance tickets for a small sum each. When a patron presented a ticket to a chosen taxi dancer, she danced with him for the length of a song. She earned a commission on every dance ticket she received. Though taxi dancing has for the most part disappeared in the United States, it is still practiced in some other countries. Crofton Park is a mainly residential suburb and wards of the United Kingdom, electoral ward in the London Borough of Lewisham. It is the original site of the former agricultural hamlet of Brockley. Rivoli Ballroom
The Rivoli Ballroom is the only intact 1950s ballroom remaining in London, England. It is famed for its original decor and interior fittings, including red velvet, flock wallpaper, chandeliers, glitter balls and oversized Chinese lanterns. The venue is often used as a film location and plays host to many dance and musical events. History The current building was originally the ''Crofton Park Picture Palace'' which opened in July 1913.
