Tenen Holtz
Tenen Holtz (born Alex Elihu Tenenholtz; February 17, 1887 – July 1, 1971) was an American actor. He appeared in nearly 60 films between 1926 and 1961. Biography Holtz was born in Ozeran, Volhynia district, now in Ukraine, and came to the United States when he was seven years old. While he was in elementary school, he began working, but he pursued studies in evening high school to improve his language abilities. Jacob Pavlovich Adler observed Holtz performing in a school production and not only gave him a permanent pass to Adler's playhouse but also allowed him to attend rehearsals. His first appearance in amateur Yiddish theatre plays occurred in 1903 in the staged readings of the works of Yiddish author Sholom Aleichem. In July 1926, he went to California "to see what all these pictures were about", he said. His film debut came in ''Upstage''. ''International Crime'' is a 1938 American film featuring a loose version of The Shadow directed by Charles Lamont starring Rod La Rocque and Astrid Allwyn. Plot Lamont Cranston is an amateur criminologist and detective, who hosts a daily radio program sponsored by the ''Daily Classic'' newspaper. He has developed a friendly but occasionally terse feud with Police Commissioner Weston. Cranston complains to his managing editor, Edward Heath, about his incompetent new assistant, Phoebe Lane. Heath advises him that because she is the publisher's niece, she cannot be fired. During his radio broadcast, Phoebe gives Cranston a note that the Metropolitan Theatre is to be robbed at eight o'clock. Afterwards, he learns she got the information from a man she met in a café. ''Detectives'' is a 1928 silent film comedy produced and distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It was directed by Chester Franklin with elements of the old-house melodrama genre. The film is another outing for Karl Dane, George K. Arthur and Marceline Day. Clips of the film appeared in Robert Youngson's ''MGM's Big Parade of Comedy'' in 1965. One scene has George K. Arthur disappearing while within the hanging covers of a large canopy bed. The film is preserved by MGM. ''Three Girls Lost'' is a 1931 American Pre-Code drama film directed by Sidney Lanfield and starring Loretta Young, Lew Cody, and John Wayne. The film also featured Ward Bond (in a small unbilled role), and co-starred Wayne with Paul Fix for the first time. Based on a story by Robert Hardy Andrews, the film is about a young man (Wayne) who finds himself suspected of involvement in the murder of a gangster. Plot Architect Gordon Wales finds his pretty young neighbor Marcia Tallant locked out of her apartment and flirts with her. He later is instrumental in getting her a job working for a gangster named William Marriott. In addition to sequences with audible dialogue or talking sequences, the film features a synchronized musical score and sound effects along with English intertitles. According to the film review in Variety, only 1 percent of the total running time featured dialogue.
