Tejano Music Award For Lifetime Achievement Award
The Tejano Music Award for Lifetime Achievement Award is an honor presented annually at the Tejano Music Awards. It is presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to Tejano music over the course of their entire careers. While the Texas Talent Musician Association has given out "special lifetime" honors since 1993, the first recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award were La Mafia when it was established at the 1999 Tejano Music Awards. The current holders of the award are David Marez and Placido Salazar, who received the award at the 2024 Tejano Music Awards. Anselmo Martinez
Anselmo "El Chemiro" Martínez was a Tejano music, Tejano singer and songwriter. Martínez gained prominence in the mid-1960s recording orchestra music influenced by Glenn Miller and subsequently introducing the style coast to coast as he toured and recorded original compositions. He had released 13 albums and 248 original songs, performing into his 80s and writing 261 Gospel songs, and releasing 5 gospel CDs. He was the President of The Guadalupanos at St. Gabriel’s Church. Linda Escobar
Linda Escobar (born 1957) is an American singer-songwriter. Referred to as the "Queen of Conjunto music", she has been called one of the most influential women of South Texas and one of the most important figures of conjunto music. Escobar rose to fame as a child in 1965 when her song "Frijolitos Pintos" sold a million copies. She embarked on touring alongside her father, Eligio Escobar, spanning the United States, Mexico, and Central America. In 1998, she started the El Veterano Conjunto Festival in San Antonio, Texas, honoring U.S. war veterans on Veterans Day. The festival culminates with the awarding of music scholarships. In 2017, U.S. Representative Filemon Vela Jr. acknowledged Escobar for her contributions to Tejano and conjunto music during Women's History Month. Paulino Bernal
Paulino Bernal (June 22, 1939 – September 10, 2022) was an American accordion player and Christians, Christian Evangelism, evangelist. He was a member of the Tejano Tex-Mex group Conjunto Bernal. In 1972, Paulino converted from the apostolic succession, apostolic Christian Evangelical and founded Bernal Christian Records to evangelize his Protestant Christian beliefs. Bernal owned and operated more than a dozen Spanish language, Spanish Language Religious broadcasting, religious radio stations in Texas, which carried a satellite-fed programming schedule through his La Nuevo Cristiana ministry. In 2008 Paulino Bernal released a new CD of polkas produced by Grammy-winning producer Armando Lichtenberger Jr., "El Maestro Del Accordion Y Sus Polkas" on Urbana Recordings, Urban Records and received his first Grammy nomination for Grammy Award for Best Polka Album, Best Polka Album for the 51st Annual Grammys. Roberto Pulido
José Roberto Pulido (born March 1, 1950), known as Roberto "El Primo" Pulido, is an American musician whose career spans five decades. Pulido has been recognized as a Tejano music pioneer for his introduction of the accordion and saxophone into his music which "helped bridged the traditional conjunto and the modern Tejano camps" in the mid-1970s. Ruben Ramos
Ruben Ramos, also known as El Gato Negro, is an American Tejano music performer. Beginning his music career in the late 1960s, Ruben's fame has grown throughout the years as he formed his distinct musical style. In March 1998, Ruben was inducted into the Tejano Music Awards Hall of Fame and later won Best Male Vocalist in 1999. His band, The Mexican Revolution, also won album of the year in 2008. The 35th Annual Tejano Music Awards was held on October 24, 2015, at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts in San Antonio, Texas. Bob Grever
Bob Grever (1936 – August 23, 2016) was an American music executive who once owned San Antonio independent record label Cara Records. He became the "most powerful record company owner" in the state of Texas in the 1980s. Grever sold the record company and its roster of recordings as well as its Tejano music musicians to EMI Latin, spearheading the 1990s Tejano music golden age. His most notable artists include Emilio Navaira and Selena. Other musicians Grever signed were Joe Posada, David Lee Garza, Bobby Naranjo, Mazz, and La Mafia. Songwriter Luis Silva became head of promotions while working for Cara Records. Grever came from a musician family, his grandmother Maria Grever, became one of the most successful female composers. The 2016 Tejano Music Awards was held on November 12, 2016, at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts in San Antonio, Texas. Laura Canales (August 19, 1954 – April 16, 2005) was an American Tejano musician and an original inductee in the Tejano Roots Hall of Fame. Canales was born in Kingsville, Texas. Early years Laura Canales was raised in Kingsville, Texas. She attended Henrietta M. King High School in Kingsville. After graduation, her father, Perfecto, encouraged her to continue her pursuit of a ''tejano'' music career.
