Tectonic (record Label)
Tectonic is a British electronic music label, founded and run by Rob Ellis ( Pinch) which focuses primarily on dubstep and its related genres. As one of the founding dubstep labels, alongside Tempa, DMZ, Hyperdub, and Hotflush, Tectonic became a focal point for the Bristol scene, as well as introducing artists and releases that were among the first to bridge a gap between dubstep and techno. Alongside releases from artists such as Skream, Benga, Digital Mystikz Digital Mystikz are a dubstep production duo consisting of Mala (born Mark Lawrence), and Coki (born Dean Harris, 26 August 1980) from the South London suburb of Norwood. Pinch (dubstep Musician)
Rob Ellis, better known as Pinch, is a British dubstep DJ, producer and label manager from Bristol, England. He is known for his fusion of styles such as reggae, World music, and dancehall with dubstep and his roles as founder of the record label Tectonic and co-founder of the club night Subloaded. He released his debut album, ''Underwater Dancehall'' in 2007, via Tectonic. One of Pinch's most well-known tracks is "Qawwali", released on Planet Mu records, which references the devotional singing of the same name, and featured samples of harmonium and singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. His songs appear on compilations such as ''Box of Dub: Dubstep and Future Dub 2'' (Soul Jazz Records), ''Science Faction: Dubstep'' ( Breakbeat Science Recordings), ''10 Tons Heavy'' (Planet Mu) and ''200'' (Planet Mu). Digital Mystikz
Digital Mystikz are a dubstep production duo consisting of Mala (born Mark Lawrence), and Coki (born Dean Harris, 26 August 1980) from the South London suburb of Norwood. Along with Loefah and SGT Pokes, who make up the group ASBO (All Soundbwoy Out), they operate the DMZ record label and host the influential bimonthly nightclub DMZ, held at the Mass club complex in Brixton, London. BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel was an early supporter of Digital Mystikz, eventually putting them in his annual 2004 top 50 list at number 29. They are among the scene's most famous producers. Their song "Anti War Dub" appeared in the 2006 film '' Children of Men'', although it wasn't included in the soundtrack. In the summer of 2008, Mala was chosen to headline the night portion of the Sónar Festival in Barcelona. Rupert Parkes (born 6 September 1971), known as Photek, is a Los Angeles-based British electronic music DJ/record producer, and TV and film score composer. Photek was born and raised in Ipswich, Suffolk, England. Photek has contributed music to several film, TV and video game productions, such as ''Blade'' in 1998. Addison Groove
Tony Williams, better known as Addison Groove (and formerly known as Headhunter), is an electronic music artist from Bristol, United Kingdom. Noted for his fusion of styles such as Techno, Jungle, Soul, Juke and Dubstep, he released his first album 'Nomad' on Tempa (the same label that Skream and Benga started on) in 2008. One of Addison Groove's most well-known tracks 'Foot Crab' was later released on Dubstep legend Loefah's label 'Swamp 81' and features cut up samples influenced by the Chicago 'Juke' sound. He has also released on Tectonic (owned by fellow Bristolian dubstep head honcho Pinch), 50 Weapons (of Modeselektor fame) and 3024. Distance (born Greg Sanders) is a British dubstep producer and DJ. He also founded the record label Chestplate, whose sonic direction followed his style, fusing metal influences with dubstep templates. Distance's involvement in Mary Anne Hobbs' 2006 BBC Radio 1 Dubstep Warz show lead to wider notoriety for him and also the genre as a whole. Liam Sylvester McLean (born 30 January 1989), better known by his stage name Joker, is a British record producer who creates music in genres such as dubstep and grime and was known for creating the subgenre "purple sound". He has contributed to two releases produced by the London-based record company Hyperdub. His debut album, ''The Vision'', was released on 31 October 2011 through independent label 4AD. Dave Huismans (born 1979), better known by his stage name 2562, is a Dutch musician from The Hague, Netherlands. Huismans bought his first laptop dedicated for music production in 2003 despite not knowing how to read musical notation. Having previously released records of various musical styles under the monikers A Made Up Sound and Dogdaze, Huismans created 2562, under which his output is generally described as dubstep. He is known for producing dubstep that takes influence from techno as well. The debut 2562 album, ''Aerial'' (Tectonic Records, 2008), was released to favourable reviews.
