Taxinge-Näsby Castle
Taxinge-Näsby Castle is a stately home in Stockholm County, Sweden. Located near Mariefred, the castle was designed by architect Carl Christoffer Gjörwell, and was built between 1807 and 1813. In popular culture Ingmar Bergman's 1972 film ''Cries and Whispers'' was filmed in and around Taxinge-Näsby Castle. The wedding scene from Bille August's 1992 film ''The Best Intentions'' was filmed at the castle. Mariefred
Mariefred is a locality situated in Strängnäs Municipality, Södermanland County, Sweden with 7,121 inhabitants in 2023. The name is derived from that of the former Carthusian monastery in the city, Mariefred Charterhouse, and means "Peace of Mary" (the previous name being Gripsholm). It lies roughly 50 kilometres west of Stockholm by lake Mälaren. Mariefred is, despite its small population, for historical reasons often still referred to as a ''city''. Statistics Sweden, however, only counts localities with more than 10,000 inhabitants as cities. Gripsholm Castle is located in the town. Adjacent to the castle is the nature reserve and deer park Gripsholms hjorthage. Carl Christoffer Gjörwell
Carl Christoffer Gjörwell (the younger; 19 January 1766 – 14 November 1837) was a Swedish architect. He was a city architect in Stockholm, Sweden, between 1804 and 1837. Biography Gjörwell was born in Stockholm, Sweden. He was the son of architect Carl Christoffer Gjörwell Sr. (1731–1811). He attended the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts and was hired in 1788 by painter and architect Louis Jean Desprez (c. 1743–1804). In 1794, he made a study trip to Rome. in 1796, he was employed as Deputy City Architect under Erik Palmstedt (1741–1803). Ernst Ingmar Bergman (14 July 1918 – 30 July 2007) was a Swedish film and theatre director and screenwriter. Cries And Whispers
''Cries And Whispers'' () is a 1972 Swedish period psychological drama film written and directed by Ingmar Bergman and starring Harriet Andersson, Kari Sylwan, Ingrid Thulin and Liv Ullmann. The film, set in a mansion at the end of the 19th century, is about three sisters and a servant who struggle with the terminal cancer of one of the sisters (Andersson). The servant (Sylwan) is close to her, while the other two sisters (Ullmann and Thulin) confront their emotional distance from each other. Inspired by Bergman's mother, Karin Åkerblom, and his vision of four women in a red room, ''Cries and Whispers'' was filmed at Taxinge-Näsby Castle in 1971. The Best Intentions
''The Best Intentions'' () is a 1991 Swedish Television film, television drama film directed by Bille August and written by Ingmar Bergman. It is semi-autobiographical, telling the story of the complex relationship between Bergman's parents, Erik Bergman (Lutheran minister), Erik Bergman and Karin Åkerblom, who are renamed Henrik and Anna in the film but retain their true surnames. The film documents the courtship and the difficult early years of their marriage, until the point when Anna becomes pregnant with their second son, who corresponds to Ingmar himself. Samuel Fröler and Pernilla August played Henrik and Anna, respectively. Ingmar Bergman wrote the screenplay based on scattered notes and conversations with his parents in their later years. At the time, it was one of the most expensive Swedish films ever made. It can be viewed as a continuation of Bergman's 1982 film ''Fanny and Alexander''. A castle is a type of fortified structure built during the Middle Ages predominantly by the nobility or royalty and by military orders.
