Tawau International Airport
Tawau Airport ( ms, Lapangan Terbang Tawau) is an airport located north east of Tawau, Sabah, Malaysia. It is one of two airports in Sabah with immigration counters for international flights, the other being Kota Kinabalu International Airport. Tawau Airport serves the districts of Tawau, Kunak and Semporna and is the nearest airport to the diving islands of Sipadan, Mabul and Kapalai, all of which are located in the latter district. Old airport In 1951, the government of British North Borneo approved the plan to construct an aerodrome in Tawau. The Tawau Airstrip was opened in 1953, located in Jalan Utara (Malay for 'Northern Road'), about outside the town centre. Tun Sardon bin Jubir ( ms, سعدون بن زبير, label= Jawi, script=arab, italic=unset; 19 March 1917 – 14 December 1985) was a Malaysian politician. He served as Minister of Health, Minister of Works and Communications and was the Yang di-Pertua Negeri (Governor) of Penang from 1975 to 1981. Early life Sardon was born in Rengit, Batu Pahat, Johor on 19 March 1917. His father, Haji Jubir bin Haji Mohd Amin was a plantation owner and a ''kathi'' in Singapore. Sardon was educated at Victoria Bridge School and Raffles Institution in Singapore. Sandakan (, Jawi script, Jawi: , ) formerly known at various times as Elopura, is the capital of the Sandakan District in Sabah, Malaysia. It is the second largest city in Sabah after Kota Kinabalu. Lahad Datu Airport is an airport located in the southeastern part of the Malaysian state of Sabah. Lahad Datu ( ms, Bandar Lahad Datu) is the capital of the Lahad Datu District in the Dent Peninsula on Tawau Division of Sabah, Malaysia. Its population was estimated to be around 27,887 in 2010. The town is surrounded by stretches of cocoa and palm oil plantations. It is also an important timber exporting port. The town has an airport for domestic flights.
