Tasmanian State League
The Tasmanian State League (TSL), colloquially known as the Tasmanian Football League (TFL), was the highest-level Australian rules football competition in the state of Tasmania. It disbanded following the end of the 2024 TSL season, 2024 season in preparation for the Tasmania Football Club to enter the Victorian Football League (VFL) in 2026. The league has a long and convoluted history which dates back to its founding on 12 June 1879 as the Tasmanian Football Association (giving it some claim to the title of the List of oldest football competitions, third-oldest club football league in the world), but the name "TFL" (also the state's football governing body) was removed after it was liquidated with crushing debts in February 1999 and replaced by an independent commission (AFL Tasmania, Football Tasmania) and the competition was renamed the Tasmanian State Football League (1999) and the SWL (2000) until the number of clubs in financial difficulty made the league unsustainable an ... Clarence Football Club
The Clarence Football Club, nicknamed the Kangaroos, is an Australian rules football club playing in the Tasmanian State League, based in Bellerive, Tasmania. Before 1947, they existed as Bellerive Football Club. The Club play their home games at Blundstone Arena (formerly Bellerive Oval), Hobart's Test Cricket ground, they share the facilities with Tasmania's cricket team, the Tasmanian Tigers. Burnie Dockers Football Club
Burnie Dockers Football Club is an Australian rules football club in Burnie Tasmania, Australia. The club currently competes in the North West Football League (NWFL). Club history The Burnie Dockers were formed as a result of a merger between former Tasmanian Football League, TFL Statewide League club Burnie Hawks Football Club, Burnie Hawks (formerly known as Cooee) and NTFL club the Burnie Tigers. After several years of bitter hatred in the city between the two rival clubs, both clubs were struggling both on-field and financially by the early 1990s. Devonport Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in Devonport, Tasmania. The club currently competes in the North West Football League (NWFL). South Launceston Football Club
The South Launceston Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently competing in the Northern Tasmanian Football Association. They were formed through a merger between City-South and East Launceston in 1986, clubs in the former Northern Tasmanian Football Association (which is not related to the current NTFA). South Launceston was in the TFL Statewide League from 1986 to 1997, then the Northern Tasmanian Football League until 2008, then in the Tasmanian Football League until 2013. Lauderdale Football Club
Lauderdale Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in the Hobart, beachside suburb of Lauderdale. History The Lauderdale Football Club was formed in 1979 and were known as the Lauderdale Magpies, competing in the Tasman Football Association for two seasons. In 1981, the club changed their emblem and uniform to the Cats and joined the Tasmanian Amateur Football League (Southern Division) where they remained until that competition collapsed after the 1995 season. The Tasmania Football Club, nicknamed the Devils, is a professional Australian rules football club expected to compete in the Australian Football League (AFL) from the 2028 season and the AFL Women's (AFLW) from the 2027 Season. Northern Tasmanian Football Association (formed 1996)
The Northern Tasmanian Football Association is an Australian rules football competition in northern Tasmania. This league is not related to the Northern Tasmanian Football Association (1886–1986), older version of the NTFA, which merged in 1987 with the North West Football Union, NWFU to form the North West Football League, Northern Tasmanian Football League. This NTFA was formed in 1996 as a replacement of the Northern Section of the Tasmanian Amateur Football League. In 1996 the Tasmanian Amateurs voted to allow the payment of players. As players were allowed to be paid then they were no longer an amateur competition. The board decided to adopt the name "Northern Tasmanian Football Association" because it was available and the former NTFA hadn't used the name for ten years.
