Tarkan (singer)
Tarkan Tevetoğlu (; born 17 October 1972) is a German-born Turkish singer-songwriter. Since the early 1990s, with his successful albums, he has been a prominent figure of pop music, recognized both in Turkey and worldwide. Tarkan was born and raised in Alzey, Rhineland-Palatinate, in the-then West Germany. In 1986, he moved to Turkey together with his family. Tarkan, who had been interested in music since his childhood, went to high school at Karamürsel and took music lessons. In the following years, he met the owner of İstanbul Plak, Mehmet Söğütoğlu, and signed a contract to release his albums. Tarkan released his first studio album, ''Yine Sensiz'', in late 1992, with "Kıl Oldum" being chosen as its lead single. His second one, ''Aacayipsin'', was released in 1994, while his third, ''Ölürüm Sana'', in 1998: the latter included the song "Şımarık" ("spoilt" in Turkish), that became popular in a number of countries, also for its English version, "Kiss Kiss". Tarkan (comics)
Tarkan is a fictional Hunnic warrior created by Turkish cartoonist Sezgin Burak. Official Turkish historiography considers Huns the ancestors of modern Turks. Earlier Turkish cartoon depictions that heroized Huns were ''Atilla Geliyor'' and ''Atilla'nın Ölümü'', created collectively by Şahap Ayhan and Ayhan Erer in late 1940s. Publication history Tarkan was created by Sezgin Burak while he was resident in Milan, working for the Italian art agency ''Studio D'Ami''. The first adventure of Tarkan, ''Mars'ın Kılıcı'' (The Sword of Mars) was serialised in 1967 as a comic strip on the pages of daily ''Hürriyet''. From 1970, adventures of Tarkan had been published in an eponymous magazine. Tarkhan (Punjab)
The Tarkhan is a caste found in the Punjab region of India and Pakistan. They are traditionally carpenters by occupation. The Hindu members of this clan are generally identified as Khatis, Suthars or Lohars following the Vishwakarma community of India. Whereas, Tarkhan Sikhs are among those groups who are identified as Ramgarhias, after the Misl leader Jassa Singh Ramgarhia. Despite Sikhism generally rejecting the caste system, it does have its own very similar socio-economic hierarchy and in that the Ramgarhias, of which the Tarkhans are a part, now rank second only to the Jat Sikhs, thanks to significant economic and social power that elevated this middle class group from its lower caste confines. According to the 1921 census of India, which may not be reliable, some Tarkhan Sikhs owned large areas of land and, in some cases, whole villages. Tarkhan (Egypt)
Tarkhan is an ancient Egyptian necropolis, located around 50 km south of Cairo on the west bank of the Nile. The cemetery was excavated in two seasons by Flinders Petrie. Tombs of almost all periods were found, but most importantly many belonging to the time of Egyptian state formation, the Early Dynastic period around 3100 BC. Petrie found more than 2,000 tombs, most of them simple holes in the ground belonging to common people. However, there were also several mastabas of the First Dynasty, decorated with a palace facade. The most important finds include a tomb with many seal impressions belonging to king Narmer and the Tarkhan dress, the world's oldest piece of woven clothing. The cemeteries of the later periods are called Kafr Ammar, although lying side by side with the earlier tombs. From a Roman period tomb came a Fayum mummy portrait.
