Tabriz
Tabriz (; ) is a city in the Central District (Tabriz County), Central District of Tabriz County, in the East Azerbaijan province, East Azerbaijan province of northwestern Iran. It serves as capital of the province, the county, and the district. It is the List of largest cities of Iran, sixth-most-populous city in Iran. Tabriz is in the Quri Chay, Quru River valley in Iran's historic Azerbaijan (Iran), Azerbaijan region between long ridges of volcanic cones in the Sahand and Eynali mountains. Tabriz's elevation ranges between above sea level. The valley opens up into a plain that gently slopes down to the eastern shores of Lake Urmia, to the west. The Bazaar of Tabriz (, also Romanized as ''Bāzār-e Tabriz'' , also Romanized as ''Tabriz Bazari'') is a historic market in central Tabriz, Iran. It is one of the oldest bazaars in the Middle East and the largest covered bazaar in the world. It is one of Iran's UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Blue Mosque, Tabriz
The Blue Mosque (), also known as the ''Masjed-e Moẓaffariya'' and as the Kabood Mosque, is a former mosque and mausoleum complex, in a partial ruinous state, partially preserved as a museum, located in Tabriz, East Azerbaijan province, Iran. The construction of the former mosque started during the Qarā Qoyunlu dynasty and was completed in 1465, but the mausoleum extension south of the mosque was completed later during the reign of the Āq Qoyunlu, into the 1480s CE. The former Blue Mosque is widely recognized as the last remaining example of Turkmen architectural and decorative styles in the city. The features of the former mosque prompted the scholars to explore the innovative features of Tabriz's ceramic tile craftsmanship—highlighting its distinctive "blue-and-white" patterns, lusterware, and gilded cobalt tiles, which for a considerable time were recognized as the sole known example of their kind. The Arg of Tabriz (), and also known as the ''Arg-e Alishah'', the Arch of Alishah, the Arg Citadel, and ''Masjid Ali-Shāh'', is the remnants of a large acropolis fortification (whence the metathetic name or plus ), city wall and mosque, located in downtown Tabriz, in the province of East Azerbaijan, Iran. Its structure has long been visible from far distances in Tabriz, more recently partially obscured by newly-erected buildings. The structure was initially a compound, containing a great vaulted mosque, adjoining prayer halls and libraries, a vast courtyard containing a huge reflecting pool, and a mausoleum—all surrounded by a containing wall. It was built in 14th century during the Ilkhanate era. Sa'at Tower
Sa'at Tower also known as Tabriz Municipality Palace (, also Romanized as Sā'at Tower) is a building in Tabriz which is used as the city hall and main office of the municipal government of Tabriz, East Azarbaijan Province, Iran. The Municipality Palace features a hall, a clock tower, and a small garden. History Before Second World War, World War II it was used by the Azerbaijan People's Government, Azerbaijan Democrat Party as the Government Office. When Iranian troops regained control of Tabriz in 1947, the building was again used as the Tabriz municipal central office. In the early 2000s parts of it became a municipal museum. The Islamic City Council of Tabriz () is the elected council that presides over the city of Tabriz, elects the Mayor of Tabriz, and budgets of the Municipality of Tabriz. The council is composed of twenty-one members elected from single-member districts for four-year terms. Masoud Pezeshkian
Masoud Pezeshkian (, ; born 29 September 1954) is an Iranian politician and physician who has been serving as the ninth president of Iran since 28 July 2024. Pezeshkian served as governor of Piranshahr and Naghadeh counties and was elected to the Iranian parliament five times, representing Tabriz, Osku and Azarshahr (electoral district), Tabriz, Osku and Azarshahr electoral district. He was Ministry of Health and Medical Education, Minister of Health and Medical Education between 2001 and 2005 in the Government of Mohammad Khatami. He ran in the 2013 Iranian presidential election, 2013 presidential election, but withdrew. He was rejected from running in the 2021 Iranian presidential election. He won the 2024 Iranian presidential election, 2024 presidential election on 5 July in a runoff with 54.76% of the popular vote. He became the President of Iran on 28 July 2024.
