Säffle
Säffle () is a locality and the seat of Säffle Municipality, Värmland County, Sweden with 9,150 inhabitants in 2016. In 1951 the town of Säffle was officially awarded City status, the last place for this to occur in Sweden. This was abolished in 1971 and Säffle is now the seat of the much larger Säffle Municipality. History Säffle's main growth as a town took place after the building of a canal in 1837 which allowed boats to safely bypass a section of turbulent water and rapids in the Byälven river. In 1879 the railway came, linking Säffle with both the west and east coasts, the capital Stockholm and the busy port of Gothenburg. This enabled Säffle to transport her wood products and the village soon became a thriving town. In 1882 Säffle had a population of 700 inhabitants. Säffle Municipality
Säffle Municipality () is a municipalities of Sweden, municipality in Värmland County in west central Sweden. Its seat is located in the stad (Sweden), city of Säffle. Säffle was the last local government unit in Sweden to get the title of a city, in 1951. In 1952 the system with different types of municipalities was made obsolete, but it formally existed until 1971. The present municipality was created in that year, when the city was amalgamated with the surrounding rural municipalities. The municipality covers a peninsula in Vänern, Lake Vänern (Värmlandsnäs), and has a large fresh water archipelago. Värmlandsnäs Värmlandsnäs, also called Näset, is a big and important part of the municipality. The area which reaches out into the middle of Vänern, Lake Vänern as a big peninsula is very significant to the economy by the produce of pork. The area supplies more than 200,000 people with pork. Värmland County
Värmland County () is a county or '' län'' in west central Sweden. It borders the Swedish counties of Dalarna, Örebro and Västra Götaland, as well as the Norwegian counties of Østfold, Akershus and Innlandet to the west. The title of Duke of Värmland is claimed by His Royal Highness Prince Carl Philip. Tina Thörner
Maria Kristina Thörner (born in Säffle, Sweden on February 24, 1966) is a Swedish rally co-driver. Tina Thörner's career in motor sports started in 1990. Since then, she has won three FIA Ladies' World Rally Championship titles, a third and a second place overall in the Dakar Rally 1999 and 2006 and two FIA Cross-Country Rally World Cup wins in 2008 and 2009. She has co-driven for many renowned drivers, including Louise Aitken-Walker with whom she made history to become the first ever female FIA World Rally Champions. In the Dakar Rally, she raced with Jutta Kleinschmidt becoming the first women to get a podium finish in 1999, and with Colin McRae in 2004 and 2005. Draconian (band)
Draconian is a Swedish gothic metal band formed in Säffle in 1994. The band's lineup had changed over the years, with only founding members Anders Jacobsson and Johan Ericson still active. Since the release of their first album ''Where Lovers Mourn'' in 2003 the lineup has been mostly stable, with Jerry Torstensson on drums, and Lisa Johansson and Heike Langhans alternately singing clean vocal parts. Since then 7 studio albums and various singles and music videos have been released. In 2024 the band celebrated its 30th anniversary. History Formation and demos (1994–2002) Draconian was formed in 1994 in Säffle, Sweden. Daniel Carlsson (rally Driver)
Daniel Carlsson (born 29 June 1976) is a rally car driver from Sweden. Biography Carlsson came in 2nd at the Swedish Junior Rally Championship in 1998 when he was only 22. He went on to compete in the Swedish Rally Championship in 1999, finishing 1st in Group H. In 1999 he finished 2nd again in the Swedish Juniors. By 2000 he graduated to the WRC and finished 22nd at his home rally of Sweden driving a Toyota. The following year in the same event he finished 7th. At his first Monte Carlo rally in 2002 he promptly came in 4th just off the podium driving a Ford Puma S1600. At his home rally of Sweden, driving a Mitsubishi in the group N class, he finished 1st. In the 2005 WRC season Carlsson was asked to stand in for Markko Märtin after the Wales Rally GB, in which Märtin's co-driver was killed. Gunnar Andersson (footballer)
Gunnar Andersson (14 August 1928 – 1 October 1969) was a Swedish footballer who played as a striker. He is widely considered one of Olympique de Marseille's best strikers, and is the highest scorer of the club. Born in Sweden, he played for the France national football B team once. Career Andersson started his career in Sweden, where he was nicknamed ''Säffle'', before playing for Danish side Kjøbenhavns BK before being transferred to Olympique de Marseille, where he became a key player. Having scored 194 goals in 220 matches, he is the highest scorer of the club ahead of Jean-Pierre Papin (182) and Josip Skoblar (176). Annichen Kringstad
Annichen Kringstad (born 15 July 1960 in Oslo, Norway) is a Swedish orienteer. Kringstad was the first household name orienteer in Sweden, and she was a major reason for the popularisation of the sport. Kringstad won the world championships individually as well as in the relay format in 1981, 1983 and 1985, before retiring at the age of 25. She represented Säffle OK, OK Ravinen and Stora Tuna IK orienteering clubs. Esaias Tegnér (; – ) was a Swedish writer, professor of Greek, and bishop. During the 19th century, he was regarded as the father of modern poetry in Sweden, mainly through the national romantic epic '' Frithjof's Saga''. He has been called Sweden's first modern man.
