''Sylvia'', originally ''Sylvia, ou La nymphe de Diane'', is a full-length classical ballet in two or three act (theatre), acts, first choreography, choreographed by Louis Mérante to music by Léo Delibes. The ballet's premiere took place on 14 June 1876 at the Palais Garnier, but was largely unnoticed by the critics. The first seven productions were commercially unsuccessful, but the 1952 revival, choreographed by Frederick Ashton, popularized the work. Productions in 1997, 2004, 2005, and 2009 productions were all based on Ashton's choreography. Concept Set in New York City's Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, which the second track is named after, ''Hospice'' tells the story of a relationship between a hospice worker and a female patient suffering from terminal bone cancer, their ensuing romance, and their slow downward spiral as a result of the woman's traumas, fears, and disease. The story of her deterioration also serves as a metaphor for an abusive relationship. Its text is a German translation by Eduard von Bauernfeld of "Who is Silvia?" from act 4, scene 2, of '' The Two Gentlemen of Verona'' by William Shakespeare. "An Sylvia" was composed during a peak in Schubert's career around the time he was writing the Ninth Symphony "Great" (D 944), two years before his death. Background Gurney said that the play had been rejected by many producers before the Manhattan Theatre Club produced it, because "it equated a dog with a woman, and to ask a woman to play a dog was not just misogynist, but blatantly sexist." Arthur Bryce Courtenay, (14 August 1933 – 22 November 2012) was a South African-Australian advertising director and novelist.
