Sydney Gardner
Sydney Lane Gardner (9 June 1884 – 23 June 1965) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the Australian House of Representatives from 1922 to 1940, representing the seat of Division of Robertson, Robertson for the Nationalist Party of Australia (1922–1931) and United Australia Party (1931–1940). Gardner was born at Rouchel, New South Wales, Rouchel, near Aberdeen, New South Wales, Aberdeen in the Hunter Valley, and was educated at Scone Grammar School and the University of Sydney. He worked as a teacher at Melville, New South Wales, Melville, Davis Creek, New South Wales, Davis Creek, Ferndale and Stoney Creek schools between 1903 and 1908, when he resigned from the Education Department and returned to farming at his family's property, "Rose Vale". The Division of Robertson is an Australian electoral division in the state of New South Wales. Geography Federal electoral division boundaries in Australia have been determined since 1984, at redistributions by a redistribution committee appointed by the Australian Electoral Commission. Redistributions occur for the boundaries of divisions in a particular state, and they occur every seven years, or sooner if a state's representation entitlement changes or when divisions of a state are malapportioned. History The division was proclaimed at Federation in 1900, and was one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first federal election in 1901. The division was named for the fifth Premier of New South Wales, Sir John Robertson. ''Windsor and Richmond Gazette'', later published as the ''Hawkesbury Gazette'', was a weekly English language compact format newspaper published in Windsor, New South Wales, Australia. History First published on 11 July 1888 by John Charles Lucas Fitzpatrick. The ''Windsor and Richmond Gazette'' was published from 1888-1983. On 4 July 1945 the Hawkesbury Herald was incorporated as part of the Windsor and Richmond Gazette. The National Party of Australia, also known as The Nationals or The Nats, is an Australian political party. Traditionally representing graziers, farmers, and regional voters generally, it began as the Australian Country Party in 1920 at a federal level. In 1975 it adopted the name National Country Party, before taking its current name in 1982. A conservative and agrarian party, the Nationals combine social conservatism with agrarian socialist economic policies. The Gloucester Advocate
''Gloucester Advocate'' is an English language newspaper published in Gloucester, New South Wales, Australia. Newspaper history The ''Gloucester Advocate'' was founded by Frank Townshend. Townshend was from a family of journalists and newspaper printers, and had previously been involved with the setting up of newspapers in Cape Town, New Zealand, Newcastle and the '' Walcha Witness'' in Balgowlah, New South Wales, which he edited and printed for over 40 years. Townshend arrived in Gloucester in 1905 to commence a paper there, and released the first issue of ''Gloucester Advocate'' on 8 July. This corresponded with the time that Australian Agricultural Company's 500,000 acre estate was being subdivided. After a short time, Townshend sold the newspaper to the Rye family in October 1906.
