Swiss Chamber Soloists
The Swiss Chamber Soloists is the concert cycle's chamber ensemble, founded in 1999 and led by the three artistic directors of the Swiss Chamber Concerts Jürg Dähler, Daniel Haefliger and Felix Renggli. History Swiss Chamber Soloists consist of solo artists, ensembles from Switzerland and guests from abroad and features many world renowned soloists like Sarah Maria Sun, Sarah Wegener, Christophe and Julian Prégardien, Heinz Holliger, Sergio Azzolini, Ilja Gringolts, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Rosanne Philippens, Thomas Zehetmair, Christophe Coin, Thomas Demenga, Edicson Ruiz, Bruno Canino, Dénes Várjon, Gilles Vonsattel, Hopkinson Smith and The Hilliard Ensemble. Lucerne Festival
Lucerne Festival is one of the leading international festivals in the world of classical music and presents a series of classical music festivals based in Lucerne, Switzerland. Founded in 1938 by Ernest Ansermet and Walter Schulthess, it currently produces three festivals per year. Since 1999, Michael Haefliger has been its Executive and Artistic Director. Starting in January 2026, Sebastian Nordmann will take over the directorship of Lucerne Festival. György Kurtág
György Kurtág (; born 19 February 1926) is a Hungarian composer of contemporary classical music and pianist. According to ''Grove Music Online'', with a style that draws on " Bartók, Webern and, to a lesser extent, Stravinsky, his work is characterized by compression in scale and forces, and by a particular immediacy of expression". In 2023 he was described as "one of the last living links to the defining postwar composers of the European avant-garde". He was an academic teacher of piano at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music from 1967, later also of chamber music, and taught until 1993. Albert Moeschinger
Albert Moeschinger (10 January 1897 – 25 September 1985) was a Swiss composer. Life Born in Basel, Moeschinger, son of a merchant, completed his musical studies in Bern, Leipzig (composition with Paul Graener, piano with Robert Teichmüller) and Munich (composition with Walter Courvoisier). After several seasons as an ensemble pianist in café houses, Moeschinger settled in Bern, where he taught privately as a piano and theory teacher, and from 1937 also at the University of the Arts Bern, and resumed his compositional activities. In 1943, health problems led him to settle in the Valais mountain village of Saas Fee. From this time on, he devoted himself exclusively to composition. Irene Abrigo (born 3 December 1988) is an Italian classical violinist. Education Abrigo started the violin at age 4 at the Aosta Suzuki School with Adriano Coluccio. At age 10 she continued her studies with Fabrizio Pavone and graduated at the Turin Conservatory at age 19. She moved then in Switzerland to study at the HEM Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève in the class of Marie-Annick Nicolas where she had her Master of Performance (2009–2011). Ruben Drole
Ruben Drole (born 1980) is a Swiss operatic bass-baritone. Life Drole was born in Switzerland to a Slovenian father and a Spanish mother. He studied with Jane Thorner Mengedoht at the Zurich University of the Arts and won several singing competitions during his studies; he graduated with distinction. In 2004, he was accepted into the International Opera Studio Zurich, and in 2005 into the ensemble of the Zurich Opera House. Menuhin Festival Gstaad
The Menuhin Festival Gstaad is a music festival founded by the violinist Yehudi Menuhin held every summer since 1957 in the Swiss alpine town of Gstaad, after being asked by the director of tourism to "enhance the summer season with some concerts". The Menuhin family settled in Gstaad in 1957, the year of the first Menuhin Festival Gstaad. It now consists of more than 50 concerts over a period of seven weeks, with a vast array of famous soloists and ensembles alike. In 2012, it was held between Friday, 20 July and 8 September. Hopkinson Smith
Hopkinson Smith (born December 7, 1946) is a Swiss- American lutenist and pedagogue, longtime resident in Basel, Switzerland. Smith was born in New York City, the son of architectural writer and photographer G. E. Kidder Smith. He graduated from Harvard University with Honors in Music (Thesis on ''"The Pavans of Daniel Bacheler"''). He moved to Europe in 1973 to study lute and vihuela with the renowned Catalan classical guitarist Emilio Pujol, as well as Eugen Mueller-Dombois. Heinz Holliger
Heinz Robert Holliger (born 21 May 1939) is a Swiss composer, virtuoso oboist, and conductor. Celebrated for his versatility and technique, Holliger is among the most prominent oboists of his generation. His repertoire includes Baroque and Classical pieces, but he has regularly engaged in lesser known pieces of Romantic music, as well as his own compositions. He often performed contemporary works with his wife, the harpist Ursula Holliger. Many composers have written works for him, including Messiaen, Berio, Carter, Henze, Krenek, Lutosławski, Martin, Penderecki, Stockhausen and Yun. Dénes Várjon (born 23 February 1968) is a Hungarian pianist known for his solo performances. He frequently performs as a chamber musician. Biography Born on 23 February 1968 in Budapest, Várjon studied since 1984 at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music and graduated in 1991. He was a student of Sándor Falvai, György Kurtág and Ferenc Rados. He attended master classes with András Schiff.
