Swatar - APS Bank Swatar
Swatar, colloquially known as Is-Swatar and Tas-Swatar, is a hamlet in Malta situated in Birkirkara and in Msida. In 2015 it had a population of over 5,100 people, with around 1,600 families. APS Bank
The APS Bank, successor of the Unione Cattolica San Giuseppe, is a Maltese bank established in 1910 by a Jesuit, Fr. Michael Vella and in 1948 the bank's ownership was transferred to the Archdiocese of Malta and Gozo. The bank was incorporated into a private limited liability company in 1970 and granted a commercial licence in 1990. Since then it has kept expanding its operations in a number of different directions. Today it employs some 300 staff working in nine branches and agencies across Malta and Gozo. APS Bank holds two subsidiaries, namely APS Consult Ltd and APS Funds Sicav plc. The Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA, mt, L-Awtorità ta' Malta dwar l-Ambjent u l-Ippjanar) was the national agency responsible for the environment and planning in Malta. It was established to regulate the environment and planning on the Maltese islands of Malta, Gozo and other small islets of the Maltese archipelago. MEPA was bound to follow the regulations of the Environment Protection Act (2001) and the Development Planning Act (1992) of the Laws of Malta. George Preca
George Preca (in mt, Ä orÄ¡ Preca) (12 February 1880 – 26 July 1962) was a Maltese Catholic priest and the founder of the Society of Christian Doctrine as well as a Third Order Carmelite. He is known as "Dun Ä orÄ¡" in Maltese and Pope John Paul II dubbed him "Malta’s second father in faith". He assumed the religious name of "Franco" after becoming a Secular Carmelite. He was a popular figure among some groups, and his pastoral care and religious teaching earned recognition. However, his activities raised suspicions of heresy from senior clergy. He was ordered to close down his teaching centres for a time while they could be investigated; they were subsequently re-opened. His activism earned him praise and in 1952, Pope Pius XII nominated him as a Papal Privy Chamberlain and awarded the rank of Monsignor.
