Surachai Danwattananusorn
Surachai Danwattananusorn (; born 24 December 1942, disappeared 10 December 2018), born Surachai Saedan (), was a Thai political activist and former political prisoner. He disappeared in 2018 along with two of his aides who were later found to have been murdered. He is believed to have been killed as well. Surachai was the last member of the Communist Party of Thailand to be pardoned. After his release he entered mainstream politics, becoming a committee member of the Thai Rak Thai Party and founding the Red Siam political movement. He was known for his Criticism of monarchy, anti-monarchist views, which resulted in a past arrest under Thailand's Lèse majesté in Thailand, lèse majesté laws. Pak Phanang District
Pak Phanang (, ) is a district (''amphoe'') of Nakhon Si Thammarat province, southern Thailand. The name of district means 'sheltered mouth', referring to the mouth of the Pak Phanang River protected from the open sea by a long peninsula. History During the ''thesaphiban'' administrative reforms the district was created in 1895 with the name ''Bia Sad'' (เบิ้ยซัด). On 22 March 1903 it was renamed ''Pak Phanang'', a name first recorded for the area in 1665. On 25 October 1962 Tropical Storm Harriet hit the district. The low Talumphuk peninsula to the north of the district was completely devastated, and even in the town Pak Phanang itself the storm surge made the water rise four metres. The flooding caused more than 1,000 fatalities and many more homeless. It is the most severe windstorm that has ever occurred in Thailand recorded. Mekong River
The Mekong or Mekong River ( , ) is a transboundary river in East Asia and Southeast Asia. Kraidej Luelert (), known as Kasalong (), was a Thai anti-monarchy activist and exile based in Laos. An aide to republican activist Surachai Danwattananusorn, Kraidej was suspected to be a victim of forced disappearance in December 2018. Activism and exile Kraidej was a member of Red Siam, a republican faction of the Red Shirts political movement. He fled Thailand after the 2014 Thai military coup, settling in Laos with Surachai Danwattananusorn and Chatcharn Buppawan. Disappearance and death On 27 December 2018, Kraidej's mutilated body was found in the Mekong River in Nakhon Phanom province, Thailand. Chatcharn Buppawan
Chatcharn Buppawan (), known as Puchana (), was a Thai anti-monarchy activist and exile based in Laos. Activism and exile Chatcharn was a member of Red Siam, a republican faction within the Red Shirts political movement. He fled Thailand following the 2014 Thai military coup. In Laos, Chatcharn lived with exiled Thai activists Surachai Danwattananusorn and Kraidej "Kasalong" Luelert in Vientiane. Disappearance and death On 12 December 2018, Chatcharn, Surachai, and Kraidej disappeared from Vientiane. On 26 December 2018, Chatcharn's mutilated body was found by fisherman Denchai Sornsai on the shore of the Mekong River in northeastern Thailand. The body of fellow activist Kraidej Luelert was found in a similar location on 27 December. Both bodies were found to be disemboweled and stuffed with concrete posts. Sanam Luang (, ; ), officially Thong Sanam Luang (), is a open field and public square in front of Wat Phra Kaew and the Grand Palace, Bangkok, Thailand. Sanam Luang is in the Phra Nakhon District, the historic center of Bangkok. Chuan Leekpai MPCh MVM ThChW (, , ; ; born 28 July 1938) is a Thai politician who served two terms as the prime minister of Thailand, from 1992 to 1995, and from 1997 to 2001. He is also the former president of the National Assembly of Thailand and speaker of the Thai House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023. The United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD; , alternatively translated as National Democratic Alliance against Dictatorship), whose supporters are commonly called Red Shirts, is a political pressure group opposed to the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), the 2006 Thai coup d'état, and supporters of the coup. Jakrapob Penkair (; born October 21, 1967) is a Thai media personality, diplomat and politician who served as a Member of Parliament for Bangkok, the Government Spokesperson of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra from 2003 to 2005, and later as a Cabinet Minister to the Office of the Prime Minister from 2007 to 2008 under the premiership of Samak Sundaravej. The Council for National Security (; ; abbreviated CNS (), was the military junta that ruled Thailand between its 2006 Thai coup d'état, coup d'état against Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra on 19 September 2006 until the later coup d'état on 22 May 2014.
