Pak Phanang District
Pak Phanang (, ) is a district (''amphoe'') of Nakhon Si Thammarat province, southern Thailand. The name of district means 'sheltered mouth', referring to the mouth of the Pak Phanang River protected from the open sea by a long peninsula. History During the ''thesaphiban'' administrative reforms the district was created in 1895 with the name ''Bia Sad'' (เบิ้ยซัด). On 22 March 1903 it was renamed ''Pak Phanang'', a name first recorded for the area in 1665. On 25 October 1962 Tropical Storm Harriet hit the district. The low Talumphuk peninsula to the north of the district was completely devastated, and even in the town Pak Phanang itself the storm surge made the water rise four metres. The flooding caused more than 1,000 fatalities and many more homeless. It is the most severe windstorm that has ever occurred in Thailand recorded. Chaloem Phra Kiat (, ) is a district (''amphoe'') of Nakhon Si Thammarat province, southern Thailand. History The district was created on 5 December 1996, together with four other districts named ''Chaloem Phra Kiat'' in celebration of the 50th anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej's accession to the throne. The district was composed of three ''tambons'': Chian Khao, Don Tro, and Suan Luang of Chian Yai district and ''tambon'' Thang Phun from Ron Phibun. Thesaban (, , , Pali: desapāla (protector of region) are the municipalities of Thailand. There are three levels of municipalities: city, town, and sub-district. Bangkok and Pattaya are special municipal entities not included in the ''thesaban'' system. The municipalities assume some of the responsibilities which are assigned to the districts (''amphoe'') or subdistricts (''tambon'') for non-municipal (rural) areas. Muban (; , ) is the lowest Administrative divisions of Thailand, administrative sub-division of Thailand. Usually translated as 'village' and sometimes as 'hamlet (place), hamlet', they are a subdivision of a tambon (subdistrict). , there were 74,944 administrative mubans in Thailand. 1997 Asian Financial Crisis
The 1997 Asian financial crisis gripped much of East Asia, East and Southeast Asia during the late 1990s. The crisis began in Thailand in July 1997 before spreading to several other countries with a ripple effect, raising fears of a worldwide economic meltdown due to financial contagion. However, the recovery in 1998–1999 was rapid, and worries of a meltdown quickly subsided. Edible Bird's Nest
Edible bird's nests, also known as swallow nests ( zh, c=燕窝, p=yànwō), are bird nests created from solidified saliva by edible-nest swiftlets, Indian swiftlets and other swiftlets of the genera ''Aerodramus'', '' Hydrochous'', '' Schoutedenapus'' and '' Collocalia'', which are harvested for human consumption. Swiftlet nests have been used as a delicacy for over 400 years, most often as soup. They are particularly prized in Chinese cuisine due to the rarity, high protein content and rich flavor, and are among the most expensive animal products consumed by humans, with prices up to about depending on grading. The type or grading of a swiftlet nest depends on the bird species, as well as the shape and colour of the bird's nest. Edible-nest Swiftlet
The edible-nest swiftlet (''Aerodramus fuciphagus''), also known as the white-nest swiftlet, is a small bird of the swift family which is found in Southeast Asia. Its opaque and whitish bird nest is made exclusively of solidified saliva and is the main ingredient of bird's nest soup, a delicacy of Chinese cuisine. Germain's swiftlet (''Aerodramus germani'') is now treated as conspecific with this species. Taxonomy The edible-nest swiftlet was formally described in 1812 by the Swedish naturalist Carl Peter Thunberg under the binomial name ''Hirundo fuciphaga'' based on a specimen collected on the island of Java. The specific epithet ''fuciphaga'' combines the Ancient Greek /' meaning "seaweed" with /' meaning "-eating".
