Super PLAY
''Super Play'' was a British Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) magazine which ran from 1 October 1992 to September 1996. Overview ''Super Play'' covered in great detail the role-playing video game genre. Many of these games were never released officially in the UK or European games market, and therefore the magazine concentrated much effort in covering aspects of the American, and moreover the Japanese games markets. Given the close ties between the world of Japanese console RPGs and animation, the magazine also heavily featured information about manga and anime by noted UK-based writer Helen McCarthy. It can be said that Super Play was one of the magazines that helped to push forward what was at the time a nascent market for anime in the UK. In this vein, the magazine itself was also notable as its cover illustrations (and many illustrations between the covers) were done in a manga-influenced style by artist Wil Overton. Wil Overton
Wil Overton is a British artist, specialising in manga styles. Career He has worked for a number of notable British video games magazines, including Super Play and N64 Magazine. He then worked at Rare and was an illustrator for NGamer magazine. After Overton drew the ''Perfect Dark'' cover for N64 Magazine at the time of the game's release, the manga-styled Joanna Dark design impressed Rare, and he was hired by the company as a result; the original cell-shaded designs for '' Perfect Dark Zero'' were based on this design, but later changed to more realistic graphics. Since leaving Rare, Overton has been a freelance artist. He will provide art for the instruction manual of the Playtonic Games title, '' Yooka-Laylee''. The Video Game History Foundation is a non-profit foundation founded by Frank Cifaldi. The primary aim of the foundation is the archival, preservation, and dissemination of historical media related to video games. History In a talk given at the 2016 Game Developers Conference, Cifaldi expressed concern over the state of video game preservation. Noting that a significant amount of feature films produced before 1950 are now irrecoverably lost, Cifaldi found himself wondering if the early history of video games would ultimately suffer the same fate. ''Retro Gamer'' is a British magazine, published worldwide, covering Retrogaming, retro video games. It was the first commercial magazine to be devoted entirely to the subject.
