The Chennai Super Kings, also known as CSK, are a professional Twenty20, Twenty20 cricket team based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, that competes in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team was one of the eight debut franchises when the league was established in 2008. The team plays its home matches at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium and is owned by Chennai Super Kings Cricket. The Super Kings are the List of Indian Premier League seasons and results, joint-most successful IPL franchise, along with Mumbai Indians, having won five IPL titles each. It has also appeared in ten finals and qualified for the playoff stages 12 times, the most amongst the IPL teams. Chennai Super Kings were one of the ten teams that took part in the 2011 Indian Premier League. They were captained for the fourth season in succession by Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The Super Kings had won both 2010 Indian Premier League and 2010 Champions League Twenty20 under Dhoni's captaincy. The Super Kings completed a hat-trick of titles by winning the 2011 Indian Premier League. Thus, they became the first team in the history of IPL to successfully defend their title. Twenty20 (abbreviated T20) is a shortened format of cricket. At the professional level, it was introduced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in 2003 for the county cricket, inter-county competition. In a Twenty20 game, the two teams have a single innings each, which is restricted to a maximum of twenty over (cricket), overs. The 2024 season was the 15th season for the Indian Premier League franchise . They were one of the ten teams competed in the 2024 Indian Premier League. They were the defending champions, having won their 5th IPL title after defeating Gujarat Titans in the rain-affected 2023 Indian Premier League final.
