Sunrise (British TV Programme)
''Sunrise'' is a British weekday breakfast programme which was broadcast on Sky News from 6 February 1989 to 13 October 2019. The programme was replaced by '' The Early Rundown'' (Monday-Friday), '' Kay Burley @ Breakfast'' (Monday-Thursday), and ''Sky News @ Breakfast'' (Friday-Sunday) in October 2019. History At its beginning in February 1989, ''Sunrise'' ran from 5:00am to 9:30am. In 1991, it became one of only two slots across Sky's 20-year history to have its own individual graphics, the other being flagship bulletin '' Live at Five''. These graphics were swiftly withdrawn after viewers and staff alike deemed them too gaudy. ''Sunrise'' has used the channel's graphics ever since. However, it is common for ''Sunrise'' to use a slight variation of some elements, such as in 1997, when it had its own variation on the-then title sequence, and in 2005 when ''Sunrise'' used an individual variation of the Sky News globe. Mark Longhurst
Mark Longhurst is a British news presenter and journalist. For 20 years, he worked at Sky News, joining in 1996 as its business correspondent and later becoming a senior presenter. He hosted various programmes on the channel including ''Sunrise'' and ''Sky News at Ten'', until his departure in 2016. Longhurst presented ITV's regional news programme ITV News West Country from March 2017 to October 2017. Before joining Sky News, Longhurst was a presenter and correspondent for TV-am. Selina Scott
Selina Mary Scott (born 13 May 1951) is an English television presenter. She co-hosted the first dedicated breakfast television programme in the UK, before moving to the United States to join '' West 57th'', a prime-time current-affairs show. Alistair Yates
Alastair Kenneth Yates (3 September 1952 – 26 July 2018) was an English news anchor, for over 20 years with the BBC, on BBC World News and BBC News. Born 3 September 1952 and brought up in Burton upon Trent, Yates was educated at Manor House School, Ashby-de-la-Zouch and the former Burton Grammar School. Before deciding on journalism as a career Yates was a circuit DJ and was MD of his own entertainments company which managed clubs and pop groups. Yates, under the pseudonym Al Kay, got his broadcasting break when he began a weekly Saturday morning pop show on Radio Derby in 1973. That same station offered him the chance to move away from music-based shows to speech programming. Penny Smith
Penelope Jane Smith (born 21 September 1958) is an English author, television presenter, newsreader and radio presenter. She has presented for Sky News, GMTV, Classic FM, BBC Radio London, Talkradio and Magic Classical. Early life and education Smith was born in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, and grew up in Rutland. Sky One
Sky One was a British pay television channel operated and owned by Sky Group (a division of Comcast). Originally launched on 26 April 1982 as Satellite Television, it was Europe's first satellite and non- terrestrial channel. From 31 July 1989, it became Sky One and broadcast exclusively in the United Kingdom and Ireland as British Sky Broadcasting's flagship channel. ''Sky News Breakfast'' is a British breakfast television programme that airs Monday- Saturday and Bank Holidays from 6–10am and Sunday from 6–8.30am on Sky News. The show launched on Friday, 18 October 2019 as the replacement for long-running breakfast show ''Sunrise (British TV programme), Sunrise''. Gareth Barlow and Anna Jones (journalist), Anna Jones are the programmes main presenters. Friday programmes are broadcast from Westminster rather than Osterley and use the same format as the Monday-Thursday programmes. The Sarah-Jane Mee Show
''The Sarah-Jane Mee Show'' (also known as ''Sky News with Sarah Hewson'') is a weekday news programme in the United Kingdom on Sky News, presented by Sarah-Jane Mee. The slot had been part of the Sky News schedule since 2005, most notably with Kay Burley as presenter until October 2019. It combined rolling-news coverage with debates and interviews on the day's issues plus human interest stories. The show aired between 2 pm5 pm Monday to Friday. On Fridays, the show title was not used on air, however the same show format was used and presented by Belle Donati. Broadcasts The show began in its final format in October 2019 when Kay Burley and Sarah-Jane Mee swapped time slots. Kay Burley
Kay Elizabeth Burley (; born 17 December 1960) is an English broadcaster. She was a presenter on Sky News and hosted the breakfast slot on the channel. She has also worked for BBC Local Radio, Tyne Tees Television, and TV-am. On 5 February 2025 it was announced that Burley was leaving Sky News after 36 years. Early life Born on 17 December 1960, Burley was brought up in Beech Hill, Wigan, Lancashire, the daughter of parents who worked in a cardboard-making factory. Jonathan Samuels (born 1972) is a British broadcaster and journalist. He co-anchored Sky News Sunrise between 2016 and 2018 and now anchors The News Hour on Friday, Saturday and Sunday as well as News at Ten during weekend periods. Sarah-Jane Mee (born 10 July 1978) is a Sky News presenter and the anchor of ''The Sarah-Jane Mee Show''. From October 2016 until October 2019, Mee anchored ''Sunrise''. Career After graduating from the University of Manchester, Mee joined Sky Sports as a runner, then moved to the planning desk before becoming a producer.
