Sunamganj Medical College is a Government medical college in Bangladesh. It is located in the Sunamganj District of Sylhet Division, by the side of the Sunamganj – Sylhet highway and east part of river Surma. It offers a five-year medical education course leading to an MBBS degree. Sylhet Medical University is a public medical university situated in Sylhet, Bangladesh.It has been established for the supervisors of all medical colleges and nursing colleges of Sylhet division. List Of Medical Colleges In Bangladesh
In Bangladesh, a medical school is referred to as a medical college. Allopathic related medical education at the graduate level are provided by medical colleges. The colleges are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), and are affiliated with a university in the respective region. They however have to be recognized after meeting a set criterion by a central regulatory authority called Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BM&DC). All medical colleges until 1986 were established by the government. Currently, there are 37 public medical colleges, these provide 5380 seats every year for students undertaking MBBS. Sunamganj District (), is a district located in north-eastern Bangladesh in Sylhet Division. History In the ancient period, Sunamganj was part of the Laur Kingdom. After the conquest of Sylhet (Kingdom of Gauiurh) in 1303 by Muslims under the spiritual guidance of Shah Jalal, Shah Kamal Quhafah established a capital in Shaharpara with the aid of his twelve disciples and his second son, Shah Muazzamuddin Qureshi, who also maintained a second sub-administration office at Nizgaon on the bank of the river Surma River, Surma, present day Shologhar (there is now Shologhar Masjid and madrasa) in Sunamganj town, which was administered by one of his descendants. Surma River
The Surma () is a major river in Bangladesh, part of the Surma-Meghna River System. It starts when the Barak River from northeast India divides at the Bangladesh border into the Surma and the Kushiyara rivers. It ends in Kishoreganj District, above Bhairab Bāzār, where the two rivers rejoin to form the Meghna River, which ultimately flows into the Bay of Bengal in Bhola District.
