''Summerland'' () is an 80-minute 2010 Icelandic film, written and directed by Grímur Hákonarson, released by Blueeyes Productions/Sögn ehf. The film is set in Kópavogur, a town south of Reykjavík strongly associated with urban legends about Huldufólk, elves. Summerlands, Victoria
Summerlands is a locality and a former residential subdivision on Phillip Island in Victoria, Australia, located in the south-west corner of the island, close to a little penguin breeding colony. In 1985, the Victorian government decided that, to protect the penguin rookery, further development of the subdivision would be prohibited and all the properties would be progressively purchased by the state. History In the early 20th century, the Summerland Peninsula had remained relatively untouched by European settlement compared to the rest of the island. Although chicory, mustard and oats for horse fodder were grown there, the land was of minimal pastoral or agricultural value. Summerland Disaster
The Summerland disaster occurred when a fire spread through the Summerland leisure centre in Douglas on the Isle of Man on the night of 2 August 1973. 50 people were killed and 80 seriously injured. The scale of the fire has been compared to those seen during the Blitz. Background Summerland was opened on 25 May 1971. It was a climate-controlled building covering on Douglas's waterfront, consisting of of floor area constructed at a cost of £2 million. The building's exterior and the interior were designed by two architects who did not coordinate their planning with each other and thereby created a venue with significant fire risks. Summerland was designed to accommodate up to 10,000 tourists and consisted of a dance hall, five floors of holiday games, a rollerskating rink, restaurants and public bars. The Summerland Sting was a Canadian 'B' Junior ice hockey team from Summerland, British Columbia. They played in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League after joining during the 2001/02 season. The last season they played in was the 2008-09 KIJHL season. The Williams Lake Mustangs are a Junior 'A' ice hockey team based in Williams Lake, British Columbia. They are members of the Doug Birks Division of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League. They play their home games at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Centre. The team relocated to Williams Lake in 2024 from Summerland where they played as the Summerland Steam from 2011 to 2024. The Summerland Australian Football League or SAFL was an Australian rules football competition in the Northern Rivers and New England (Australia), New England region of New South Wales, Australia, in existence from 1984 to 2011. It now is reformed under the AFL Queensland banner under various QFA divisions, currently QFA Division 2 South/Northern Rivers. Summerland Key is an island in the lower Florida Keys about east of Key West; it contains an unincorporated community of Monroe County of the same name. The Summerland Oil Field (and Summerland Offshore Oil Field) is an inactive oil field in Santa Barbara County, California, about four miles (6 km) east of the city of Santa Barbara, within and next to the unincorporated community of Summerland. First developed in the 1890s, and richly productive in the early 20th century, the Summerland Oil Field was the location of the world's first offshore oil wells, drilled from piers in 1896. This field, which was the first significant field to be developed in Santa Barbara County, produced 3.18 million of barrels of oil during its 50-year lifespan, finally being abandoned in 1939-40. Summerland is a census designated place (CDP) in Santa Barbara County, California. The population was 1,222 at the 2020 census, down from 1,448 at the 2010 census. The town includes a school and a Presbyterian Church. There are many small businesses. History Tar from natural oil seeps in the Summerland area was used for sealing their ocean-going tomols by the Chumash people and for the Mission Santa Barbara as waterproofing for the roof. In 1883, spiritualist and real estate speculator H.L. Williams founded the town of Summerland. In 1888 he divided his land tract, on a moderately sloping hill facing the ocean, into numerous parcels. He promoted the tiny lots – 25 x 60 – to fellow Spiritualists, who bought them in quantity and moved to the area.
