Summer Close-Up
''Summer Close-Up'' is a Television in Canada, Canadian current affairs television series which aired on CBC Television in 1977. Premise Episodes consisted of a mix of public affairs content such as documentaries and studio interviews. These mostly addressed subjects of national concern such as the Royal Commission on Violence in the Communication Industry, fishing quotas and the prison system. The series included biographical segments featuring Michel Brault (film producer), David Crombie (then mayor of Toronto) and Jacques Dextraze (military chief). Scheduling This half-hour series was broadcast on Thursdays at 9:00 p.m. (Eastern time) from 26 May to 4 August 1977. Michel Brault
Michel Brault, OQ (25 June 1928 – 21 September 2013) was a Canadian cinematographer, cameraman, film director, screenwriter, and film producer. He was a leading figure of Direct Cinema, characteristic of the French branch of the National Film Board of Canada in the 1960s. Brault was a pioneer of the hand-held camera aesthetic. Career His early cameraman work with Gilles Groulx ('' Les Raquetteurs''), Claude Jutra ('' À tout prendre'', '' Mon oncle Antoine'') and Pierre Perrault (''Pour la suite du monde'') virtually defines the look of classic Quebec cinema. David Crombie
David Edward Crombie (born April 24, 1936) is a Canadian former academic and politician who served as the 56th mayor of Toronto from 1972 to 1978. Crombie was elected to Parliament following his tenure as mayor. A member of the Progressive Conservative (PC) Party, he served as minister of national health and welfare from 1979 to 1980, minister of Indian affairs and northern development from 1984 to 1986, and secretary of state for Canada from 1986 to 1988. Early life Crombie was born in Swansea, then a village west of Toronto, the son of Vera Edith (Beamish) and Norman Davis Crombie. He was a lecturer in politics and urban affairs at Ryerson in the 1960s when he became involved in Toronto's urban reform movement. Jacques Dextraze
Jacques Alfred Dextraze (August 15, 1919 – May 9, 1993) was a Canadian military officer who served as Chief of the Defence Staff of Canada from 1972–1977. Early life Born in Montreal, Quebec, the son of Alfred Dextraze and Amanda (Bond) Dextraze, he joined Les Fusiliers Mont-Royal in 1940 as a Private, and was soon commissioned as Lieutenant. Military career He served in World War II in North West Europe where he was granted command of his regiment in action and was awarded two Distinguished Service Orders. In 1950 he was called back from a civilian career to build, train and command the 2nd Battalion, Royal 22e Régiment, leading it in the Korean War. His battalion won considerable acclaim for its stubborn stand at "Hill 355" when allied troops withdrew, leaving the "Vingt deux" surrounded but unshaken.
