''Such Great Heights'' is an extended play, EP by the Florida singer-songwriter Iron & Wine. It was released in 2006 on the Sub Pop record label. The title track is a cover of a popular song by The Postal Service. Iron & Wine's version originally appeared on The Postal Service's ''Such Great Heights'' single, released in 2003, and was used in the 2004 film ''Garden State (film), Garden State'' and its soundtrack. Samuel "Sam" Ervin Beam (born July 26, 1974), better known by his stage name Iron & Wine, is an American singer-songwriter. He has released six studio albums, several EPs and singles, as well as a few download-only releases, which include a live album (a recording of his 2005 Bonnaroo performance). He occasionally tours with a full band. Beam was raised in South Carolina before moving to Virginia and then Florida to attend school. He now resides in Durham, North Carolina. The name ''Iron & Wine'' is taken from a dietary supplement named "Beef, Iron & Wine" that he found in a general store while shooting a film. ''In the Reins'' is a joint EP by Calexico and Iron & Wine, released by Overcoat Recordings on September 13, 2005. Iron & Wine's Sam Beam wrote all of the songs, which were recorded by the two bands together at Wavelab Studio in Tucson, Arizona. The album peaked at #135 on the ''Billboard'' 200. Both later collaborated on a cover of Bob Dylan's "Dark Eyes" for the ''I'm Not There'' soundtrack, while Calexico's Joey Burns was featured on Iron & Wine's third LP, ''The Shepherd's Dog''. Calexico (band)
Calexico is a Tucson, Arizona-based Americana, Tex-Mex, indie rock band. The band's two main members, Joey Burns and John Convertino, first played together in Los Angeles as part of the group Giant Sand. They have recorded a number of albums on Quarterstick Records, while their 2005 EP '' In the Reins'', recorded with Iron & Wine, reached the Billboard 200 album charts. Their musical style is influenced by traditional Latin sounds of mariachi, conjunto, cumbia, and tejano mixed with country, jazz, and post-rock. The band is named for the border town of Calexico, California, and has been described by some as "desert noir". The Postal Service are an American indie pop supergroup from Seattle, Washington, consisting of singer Ben Gibbard, producer Jimmy Tamborello, and Jenny Lewis on background vocals. The band released their only album, '' Give Up'', in 2003 on Sub Pop Records, to mostly positive reviews. The album reached number 114 on the US '' Billboard'' 200 album chart and received platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. It was released as the lead Single (music), single from their debut studio album, ''Give Up'', on January 21, 2003 through Sub Pop, Sub Pop Records. The single includes a previously unreleased track, "There's Never Enough Time", and two cover tracks by The Shins and Iron & Wine of "We Will Become Silhouettes" and "Such Great Heights", respectively. "Such Great Heights" ranked 27 on ''Rolling Stones 100 Best Songs of the Decade list. Background "Such Great Heights" came together late in the recording process, and was one of the last songs the duo completed in June 2002. "We Will Become Silhouettes" is a single by American indie band the Postal Service, released February 8, 2005, under the Sub Pop Records label. The single included a new track "Be Still My Heart" and two remixed tracks by Matthew Dear ("We Will Become Silhouettes") and Styrofoam ("Nothing Better"). The title track has been used in a Honda Civic commercial. Indie band The Shins recorded an acoustic cover of the title track, which was included as a B-side on The Postal Service's "Such Great Heights". The Shins
The Shins is an American indie rock band formed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1996. The band is the project of singer-songwriter James Mercer, who has served as the band's sole constant member throughout numerous line-up changes. The band's current line-up consists of Mercer, alongside Yuuki Matthews (bass, keyboards), Mark Watrous (guitar, keyboards, lap steel), Patti King (keyboards), and Jon Sortland (drums).
