Straw Man Army
Straw Man Army is a punk rock duo based in Brooklyn, New York. The band has released four albums since their founding in 2018. History The duo first met in high school in Chicago and formed Straw Man Army in 2018. Their first album, ''Age of Exile'', was released in October 2020. Its lyrics address the legacy of U.S. colonialism, and the band donated the profits from album sales to The Red Nation, a Native American advocacy group. In 2021, Straw Man Army recorded a soundtrack for ''Her Majesty's Ship'', an experimental 2019 film based on Charles Darwin's 1839 memoir ''The Voyage of the Beagle.'' Their 2022 album ''SOS'' was named by ''The Washington Post'', NPR, and Bandcamp as one of the best albums of the year. The band donated profits from sales of ''SOS'' to Roots Unbound, a prison abolition nonprofit. Forced Exposure
''Forced Exposure'' was an independent music magazine founded by Jimmy Johnson and Katie The Kleening Lady (Goldman) (zine). It was published sporadically out of Boston from 1982 to 1993, edited by Jimmy Johnson and Byron Coley. It was printed on cheap newsprint with plain design and filled with corrosive yet humorous writing. The first issue featured Boston Hardcore band SS Decontrol on the cover. While there were articles and reviews of various counter-culture figures in literature (Charles Bukowski, William S. Burroughs, Philip K. Dick) and film ( Richard Kern, Nick Zedd), the primary focus was independent, punk, and obscure music. The tone was often sarcastic, confrontational and highly opinionated. Crass
Crass was an English art collective and punk rock band formed in Epping, Essex in 1977 who promoted anarchism as a political ideology, a lifestyle, and a resistance movement. Crass popularized the anarcho-punk movement of the punk subculture, advocating direct action, animal rights, feminism, anti-fascism, and environmentalism. The band employed and advocated a DIY ethic in its albums, sound collages, leaflets, and films. This Heat
This Heat were an English experimental rock band, formed in early 1976 in Camberwell, London by multi-instrumentalists Charles Bullen (guitar, clarinet, viola, vocals, tapes), Charles Hayward (drums, keyboards, vocals, tapes) and Gareth Williams (keyboard, guitar, bass, vocals, tapes). This Heat were active during the ascendancy of British punk, but stood apart from that scene due to an experimental and confrontational approach. Zounds are an English anarcho punk/post-punk band from Reading, Berkshire, formed in 1977. Originally they were part of the cassette culture movement, releasing material on the Fuck Off Records label, and were also involved in the squatting and free festival scene. The Apostles were an English experimental punk rock band, who developed within the 1980s anarcho-punk scene in the UK, but did not necessarily adhere to the aesthetics of that movement and were critical of what they saw as its ideological conformity and especially pacifism.
